Gujjars remember Chowdhary Mohammad Hussain on 18th death anniversary


Jammu, September 30 (Scoop News)-Veteran tribal leader Chowdhary Mohammad Hussain Former Minister and five time MLA from Darhal Rajouri was remembered by Gujjar community on his 18th death anniversary in a programme held here today .
The commemoration meeting was organised by Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation , held under the presidentship of noted Gujjar researcher Dr. Javaid Rahi - to recall the contributions of the former legislature, and tribal reformer towards tribal communities.
In his presidential address Dr Javaid Rahi said that Chowdhary Mohammad Hussain was a leader of masses who has spent his whole life for reformation of tribal and other downtrodden communities of Jammu and Kashmir.
Dr Rahi said Chowdhary Mohammad Hussain has also played a key role for development of Gojri language and Culture in Jammu and Kashmir . Late Hussain interduce a bill in State Assembly for inclusion of Gojri in the 6th Scheduled of Constitution of erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir which was later passed by the assembly in early 70s .
Chowdhary Mohammad Hussain represented Darhal constituency in state legislative assembly for five terms , for many years and highlighted the plight of people who live in for flung areas espeacialy Gujjars and Bakerwals Dr Rahi said and added that as a Minister , he played a key role to implement educational and economic prosperity and establishment of new Gujjar hostels for nomadic students.
He added that late Chowdhary Mohammad Hussain was a man of many qualities as he was very humble , tolerant and soft spoken.
Born in 1929 in Rajouri late Chowdhary Mohammad Hussain also served as Block development officer from 1957 to 1967 later joined politics and elected MLA for 5 times from Darhal Rajouri. As a minister he headed the revenue, relief and rehabilitation, rural development and Panchayati Raj cooperatives departments etc. He died in 30 September 2002 at the age of 73.
His younger son Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali also represents Darhal (Vidhan Sabha) in 11th and 12th Assemblies and was a cabinet minister in the Mufti Mohommad Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti Governments.
His grandsons Shahid Iqbal Choudhary first IAS from Gujjar community is now serving as Dy Commissioner Srinagar and Zafar Choudhary is a noted journalist and policy analyst of India.
The contributions of Ch Hussain for Gujjar community will be remembered for all times to come.
