| IUST’s JK Science Congress enters day two | |
Awantipora, September 30 (Scoop News)-The second day of the three-day JK Science Congress 2026, being hosted by the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), witnessed a series of plenary lectures, technical sessions and poster presentations, providing a platform for researchers, academicians and scholars to deliberate on contemporary developments in science, education, research and emerging technologies.
The day commenced with the third Plenary Lecture delivered by Prof. Vinod Kumar Gaur, Former Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) and an Honorary Emeritus Scientist at the CSIR Fourth Paradigm Institute, Bengaluru. The lecture, titled ‘Science Education and Research in the Age of Steep Transformations,’ explored the changing landscape of science education and research amid rapid technological and societal transformations.
He focused on the importance of the Green Revolution and the extraordinary innovations that rescued humankind from the impasses of an existing age. He further stated that the ability of the human mind to observe the patterns of nature ignites the innate cognitive intuition and inspires them to imagine new designs.
The session was followed by fourth Plenary Lecture by Prof. Srinivas Hotha, FRSC, Professor (HAG), Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune. His lecture, titled ‘From Discovery to Impact: Translating Research into Societal Benefits,’ focused on the significance of translating scientific discoveries and research outcomes into meaningful societal applications.

The plenary sessions were followed by technical sessions, providing participants an opportunity to present and discuss research across diverse areas of science, innovation and emerging technologies. The Congress also featured a poster presentation at the Civil Mechanical Engineering Block, where researchers and scholars showcased their work and engaged in academic exchange.
The proceedings concluded with a cultural programme at the Nund Reshi Auditorium, adding a cultural dimension to the academic proceedings of the Congress.
The JK Science Congress 2026, being held from September 29 to October 1, is being organised under the theme ‘Science, Innovations and Emerging Technologies for Sustainable and VIKSIT J&K.’ The Congress brings together researchers, academicians, scientists and students to facilitate knowledge exchange, interdisciplinary dialogue and discussions on the role of science and innovation in addressing contemporary challenges and contributing to the development of Jammu and Kashmir.
