| BJP J&K Welcomes NMC Decision to Increase MBBS Seats in Jammu & Kashmir | |
Jammu/Srinagar, September 24 (Scoop News)-BJP J&K spokespersons Rajni Sethi and Er. Sahil Bashir Bhat have welcomed the latest decision of the National Medical Commission (NMC) regarding the updated MBBS seat matrix for the academic session 2026–27, describing it as an important development for medical education and healthcare infrastructure in Jammu & Kashmir.
As per the NMC’s updated seat matrix dated 18 September 2026, Jammu & Kashmir has a total of 1,750 MBBS seats across 11 medical colleges, including 175 additional seats.
The revised matrix includes 1,600 seats in 10 government medical colleges, along with 150 seats in one private medical college. The increase includes 50 additional MBBS seats each at Government Medical College Jammu and Government Medical College Srinagar.
Rajni Sethi and Er. Sahil Bashir Bhat said that the expansion of MBBS capacity will provide more opportunities for aspiring medical students from Jammu & Kashmir and contribute to strengthening the region’s medical education ecosystem.
They further said that the NMC’s updated matrix incorporates approvals relating to new medical colleges and increases in annual intake, and is applicable for counselling and admissions for the 2026–27 academic session.
The spokespersons said the expansion of medical education capacity is significant for addressing the growing demand for trained medical professionals and strengthening healthcare delivery across the Union Territory.
