KPC welcomes U.S envoy Sergio Gor remarks on J&K as an integral part of India

Jammu, August 20 (Scoop News)-The Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) welcomes the remarks made by U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor during his visit to Srinagar, describing Jammu & Kashmir as an “important part of India.” KPC considers the statement significant, particularly in the context of the changing realities in Jammu & Kashmir, and appreciates any affirmation that recognises the region’s integral place within India.

However, the Kashmiri Pandit community and its representative organisation, the Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC), express deep disappointment and displeasure over the Ambassador’s silence regarding the tragic plight of the Kashmiri Pandits, who were driven out of their ancestral homeland in 1990 through terrorism, targeted killings, threats, intimidation and systematic persecution.
For more than three decades, this indigenous community has remained displaced from its ancestral land of Kashyap Bhoomi, suffering enormous human, emotional, cultural and economic losses. Thousands were forced to abandon their homes, properties, temples, shrines, livelihoods and centuries-old cultural roots virtually overnight. Many lost their loved ones, while successive generations have grown up in exile, deprived of the right to live with dignity in their own ancestors land in Kashmir valley.

Kundan Kashmiri, President KPC believes that any serious discussion on Jammu & Kashmir, its history, its people and its future cannot remain complete without acknowledging the immense suffering and continuing displacement of the Kashmiri Pandit community. Their tragedy is not merely a matter of the past; it remains an unresolved humanitarian, human-rights and justice issue.
KPC therefore finds it deeply concerning that while attention is routinely drawn to various dimensions of Jammu & Kashmir, the suffering of the displaced Kashmiri Pandits, one of the oldest indigenous communities of the Valley, continues to receive inadequate international attention. Their displacement cannot be allowed to become a forgotten chapter of history.

KPC leadership, Which including also M.K Raina, Susheel Ji Bhat & RL Raina respectfully urges the U.S. Ambassador, the Government of the United States and the international community to recognise the legitimate rights, suffering and aspirations of the displaced Kashmiri Pandits and to acknowledge their right to return to their ancestral homeland in conditions of security, dignity, honour and justice.

Kundan Kashmiri ,Tej Ji Pandita and Sumeet Kaw reiterates that peace in Jammu & Kashmir cannot be measured merely by the absence of violence. Genuine and lasting peace must also encompass justice for victims, protection of indigenous rights, restoration of dignity, preservation of cultural heritage and the creation of conditions in which the displaced Kashmiri Pandit community can return to and resettle in its ancestral homeland with full security and constitutional guarantees.

The Kashmiri Pandit community has waited for more than 37 years. Its patience must not be mistaken for acceptance of permanent displacement. The world must hear the voice of a community that lost its ancestors land but never lost its claim to its ancestral roots.
