NIT Srinagar hosts NABL Gunvatta Yatra workshop to boost laboratory quality standards

Srinagar, August 06 (Scoop News)- In a major initiative to promote quality assurance and internationally accepted laboratory standards, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Thursday organised a one-day awareness workshop on “NABL Accreditation and its Benefits” under the NABL Gunvatta Yatra, in collaboration with the Quality Council of India (QCI).

The programme was aimed at equipping Heads of Departments, laboratory in-charges, faculty members and technical staff with a comprehensive understanding of laboratory accreditation and its role in enhancing research excellence and technical competence.

Sponsored by the Quality Council of India (QCI), the workshop focused on building awareness among laboratories across the institute about the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) accreditation process and the advantages of adopting globally recognised quality standards.

The programme featured technical sessions by Dr. Bhumi Rajyaguru, Joint Director, NABL, and Mr. Sidhant Trivedi, Coordinator, NBQP, who explained various aspects of NABL accreditation, including the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025:2017, laboratory documentation, quality management systems and the step-by-step accreditation process.

The inaugural session was attended by Prof. Roohie Naaz, Dean Research and Consultancy, who underscored the importance of maintaining internationally accepted quality standards in academic and research laboratories.

She said accredited laboratories play a crucial role in strengthening the credibility of scientific research, innovation and technology development while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

The event formed part of NABL's nationwide Gunvatta Yatra initiative, which seeks to encourage institutions, industries and testing facilities to strengthen their quality management systems through accreditation.

The experts highlighted that NABL accreditation improves the reliability and accuracy of testing and calibration services, enhances customer confidence, ensures compliance with international standards and provides laboratories with national and global recognition.

The awareness programme also outlined its key objectives, including explaining the importance and relevance of NABL accreditation in institutional and industrial quality systems, familiarising participants with the accreditation criteria and procedures.

It also highlighted the benefits of accreditation such as improved quality assurance, enhanced stakeholder confidence and international acceptance, and addressing participants' queries on integrating accreditation into laboratory quality frameworks.

Faculty members from various departments actively participated in the interactive sessions, engaging with experts on practical aspects of laboratory accreditation and quality documentation.
