| Cleanliness Drive Conducted Across Sub-Division Kharu | | Leh, July 30 (Scoop News)-On the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Sh. Romil Singh Donk, IAS, a comprehensive cleanliness drive was conducted across Sub-Division Kharu, covering the National Highway stretch from Shinde Morh to Upshi, including the Kharu and Upshi market areas on 30th July, 2026.
The drive was led by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Kharu, Mohd. Shabir, and witnessed the active participation of officers and officials from all Government departments and Police department functioning within Sub-Division Kharu, local trade bodies, volunteers along with labours from Indian Army (3 Infantry Division) and 111 RCC (BRO), also participated enthusiastically in the initiative.
To ensure systematic coverage of the entire route, four dedicated teams were deployed at key vulnerable locations along the National Highway and adjoining areas. The teams collected and removed single-use plastics, roadside litter dumped on no-man’s land, and other accumulated waste from identified hotspots, contributing significantly to improving the cleanliness of the area.
Speaking on the occasion, SDM Kharu appreciated the wholehearted participation and commitment of all officers, officials, police personnel, volunteers, trade bodies, and Indian Army & BRO. He appealed to residents, shopkeepers, commuters, and tourists to refrain from littering and the open dumping of waste, and to actively contribute towards maintaining a clean, green, and environmentally sustainable Sub-Division Kharu.
Referring to the cleanliness drives conducted in the past, the SDM observed that while such initiatives have been undertaken regularly, sustained public participation and responsible waste disposal practices are essential to achieve lasting results. He urged people to avoid dumping waste on the isolated aides of the National Highway and other public spaces and to actively support the Administration’s efforts in preserving the environment and maintaining cleanliness.
The cleanliness drive reflects the UT Administration’s continued commitment to environmental conservation, public hygiene, and fostering greater community participation in keeping the region clean, sustainable, and free from indiscriminate waste dumping.
During the drive, the Dy CEO Kharu, BDO Kharu, Medical Officer Sakti, CDPO Kharu, Tehsildar, Gia, Police Choki Officer Kharu, Principal HSS, Sakti along with other officers and officials from various Government departments, actively participated in the campaign, reaffirming the Administration’s collective commitment to promoting cleanliness and environmental sustainability.
