| Awareness and Sensitization Programmes Conducted Across Gram Panchayats of Kargil | | Under “Swachh Gaon, Surakshit Jalvayu” Campaign |
Kargil, June01 (Scoop News)-As part of the ongoing five-day “Swachh Gaon, Surakshit Jalvayu” campaign being observed from June 1–5, 2026, awareness and sensitization programmes were conducted across various Gram Panchayats of Kargil district to promote cleanliness, environmental sustainability, and responsible waste management practices.
The programmes witnessed active participation from officials of the Rural Development Department (RDD), Panchayat functionaries, volunteers, school children, and local residents, who collectively pledged to maintain clean surroundings and contribute towards environmental conservation.
During the awareness sessions, participants were sensitized about the importance of proper waste management and the concept of four-way waste segregation, comprising Dry Waste, Wet Waste, Sanitary Waste, and Special Care Waste. Emphasis was laid on the significance of source segregation at the household level as a key step towards effective solid waste management.
The participants were also educated about the provisions and objectives of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, and the crucial role of community participation in ensuring scientific waste disposal, reducing environmental pollution, and fostering sustainable development.
The campaign aims to strengthen public awareness and encourage behavioural change towards responsible waste management, thereby contributing to cleaner villages and a safer environment for future generations.
