Centre Govt completely failed to control sky touching price rises: Rattan Lal
Says Omar Abdullah led Government is trying its best to provide relief to the people of J&K

Jammu May 29 (Scoop News)- The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Provincial President Jammu Rattan Lal Gupta said that the sky-touching price rise in Jammu and Kashmir has made the life of common people miserable. Poor families, middle-class households, daily wagers, employees, pensioners, traders, transporters and youth are struggling to survive under the heavy burden of inflation. The BJP-led Centre Government completely failed to control prices of essential commodities.

Interacting with party functionaries of Jammu regarding the present scenario of price rises and political issues at Sher-e- Kashmir Bhavan, Jammu today. Rattan Lal Gupta said that the prices of LPG cylinders, petrol, diesel, vegetables, milk, edible oil, transport fare and other daily-use/ eatable items are increasing continuously, badly affecting household budgets. Reports show that the domestic LPG cylinder price in Jammu has reached around Rs 964 while commercial LPG cylinders have crossed Rs 3200, causing immense hardships to common consumers, hotels, dhabas and small traders. The recent increase of nearly Rs 3 per litre in petrol and diesel prices has further pushed transportation and commodity prices upward across Jammu and Kashmir. The transport fare hike and increase in fuel charges are directly affecting the prices of vegetables, fruits, milk and essential goods in every town and village of J&K. Even small roadside eateries and tea stalls are unable to survive due to the abnormal rise in commercial gas prices.

Mr Gupta emphasized the Omar Abdullah-led Government is trying its best to provide relief to the people despite limited powers under the Union Territory system. The J&K Budget has already proposed six free LPG cylinders for AAY families and several welfare measures for weaker sections. However, without restoration of full Statehood and adequate financial support from the Centre, the elected Government faces continuous hurdles in providing large-scale relief to the public.

It is unfortunate that while unemployment is rising and business activities are slowing down, the BJP Government at the Centre is continuously burdening the people with indirect economic pressure. The purchasing power of the common man has collapsed and the condition of poor families is becoming worse day by day.

Mr Rattan Lal Gupta urged the Central Government to reconsider its policies and provide immediate relief to the people by reducing fuel and LPG Prices.
