| Historic MSP revision will empower “Annadatas” across nation: Baldev | | Jammu, May 14 (Scoop News)-Jammu and Kashmir BJP General Secretary & former Deputy Mayor Baldev Singh Billawaria has described the decision of the Union Cabinet to enhance the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for 14 Kharif crops for the 2026-27 marketing season, as a historic and visionary move of the Modi government that will economically empower the “Annadatas” across nation.
In a statement issued here today, Baldev said that the Narendra Modi-led government has once again reaffirmed its unwavering commitment towards the welfare and prosperity of farmers by announcing substantial increases in MSPs for major Kharif crops. He said the decision reflects the government’s farmer-centric policies and its determination to ensure better returns for agricultural produce.
Baldev Singh Billawaria said that the enhancement in MSPs will provide much-needed financial security to farmers and strengthen the rural economy. He particularly appreciated the government’s focus on pulses and oilseeds, saying that it will encourage crop diversification and reduce dependence on imports while promoting self-reliance in agriculture.
He noted that the government has ensured MSPs at least 1.5 times the average cost of production, which demonstrates its sensitivity towards the rising input costs faced by farmers. He added that the estimated payout of nearly Rs 2.60 lakh crore to farmers will serve as a major economic boost for the agriculture sector and rural households.
Baldev highlighted that sunflower seed received the highest increase of Rs 622 per quintal, while cotton, sesamum and nigerseed also witnessed significant hikes. He further said that the increase in MSP for paddy would benefit a large number of farmers engaged in cultivation across different regions of the country.
Praising the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Baldev said that several revolutionary steps have been taken in recent years to strengthen the agriculture sector and improve the socio-economic condition of farmers. He added that schemes related to irrigation, crop insurance, direct benefit transfer and procurement support have already transformed the lives of millions of farmers.
Baldev said that the latest MSP revision will boost farmers’ confidence, increase agricultural productivity and contribute significantly towards achieving the goal of a prosperous and self-reliant India. He expressed hope that the farming community would greatly benefit from the decision and continue contributing towards strengthening the nation’s economy and food security. ... |
