Through the representation the Chamber highlighted the urgent need for the establishment of a dedicated Cyber Police Station in Katra in view of the increasing number of cyber-related crimes being reported by pilgrims as well as members of the local business community. Katra, being the base camp of the world-renowned Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra witnesses lakhs of devotees every month from across the country and abroad. The delegation apprised DIG Sharma about several emerging cyber threats being faced by pilgrims including fake websites related to helicopter bookings, hotel reservations and travel services along with various digital payment and UPI scams. The Chamber further pointed out that local businesses are also increasingly becoming victims of cyber impersonation through fake social media profiles and fraudulent online listings, digital harassment and malicious propaganda aimed at damaging business reputations as well as phishing emails, ransomware attacks and extortion attempts. The delegation emphasized that the establishment of a Cyber Police Station in Katra would go a long way in ensuring a secure digital environment for pilgrims, safeguarding tourism stakeholders and local businesses from cyber threats and facilitating a smooth, safe and trustworthy yatra experience for the devotees of Maa Vaishno Devi.
During the interaction, the Chamber of Tourism Trade and Industry Katra also expressed its sincere appreciation to the Jammu and Kashmir Police particularly the Katra Police unit for their dedicated and commendable efforts in combating drug peddling under the Drug-Free J&K Campaign. The Chamber acknowledged that the proactive approach adopted by the police administration including enhanced vigilance, continuous monitoring and strict action against those involved in the illegal drug trade has yielded encouraging results. These consistent efforts have helped protect the youth from the harmful effects of drug abuse while strengthening the sense of safety and well-being among residents, pilgrims and visitors alike.
DIG Shiv Kumar Sharma assured the delegation that the Jammu and Kashmir Police is committed to adopting a zero-tolerance policy towards cybercrime especially in Katra town so that pilgrims continue to enjoy an excellent and secure yatra experience which in turn will help boost tourism activities, strengthen local businesses and generate greater employment opportunities in the region. On the issue of drug eradication DIG Sharma maintained that the police department would continue to act with a high level of commitment, consistency and determination to build a drug-free society.
