| CGPWA launches ‘Nasha Mukt Abhiyan’ in Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam School, Rajeev Nagar | | 
Jammu, May 13 (Scoop News)-Joining Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, launched by the Lt Governor, Shri Manoj Sinha in Jammu on 11th April, 2026, the Central Govt. Pensioners’ Welfare Association, Jammu (CGPWA) today organised an impressive “Awareness cum Counseling Camp on Drug Abuse” at Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam Welfare Sarvodaya Middle School, Rajeev Nagar, Narwal, Jammu.
The former DGP and CVC, J&K and President CRPWA, Kuldeep Khoda was the Chief Guest and the former DGP, Dr Ashok Bhan was the Guest of Honour. The former Chief Secretary J&K, B R Sharma presided over the two and half hour multifaceted program in which over one hundred students and their parents, residents of the area and members of the CGPWA participated.
The school and area were carefully selected by the CGPWA for launch of this awareness campaign as it is one of the hotspots of drug mance in Jammu city. In the program itself two drug ‘rehabilitated’ students narrated their horrifying tale of falling in the drug trap, advising their fellow students to refrain from abuse.
Specially made badges of Nasha MUKT Jammu, made by the CGPWA were pinned on the shirts of students, their parents and all guests.
The Principal Yogita Bakshi administered oath to the students, their parents and others present to desist from drug addiction and pledged to work to make our community, family, friends, themselves drug free, starting it from them. They also pledged to contribute towards the development of society and country.
The artists of the Central Bureau of Communication presented some educative items on drug abuse, conveying the anti-drug message to the students and their parents.
Divya Jamwal, Counselor, in the Police De-addiction Centre, created a very friendly environment with the students and their parents by her smart counselling. She said that every student has a dream to be something in life and they work for it. But once they fall in the trap of Drug Peddlers, all their dreams are crashed.
The students responded positively to her occasional queries and explained to them about early symptoms of a youth falling into drug abuse which included agitated, anger, hostility, slurred speech, reddishness in eyes. Even the class mates and their parents can easily come to know about this problem and then should start helping him to return back to normal life through compassion, bringing him to the nearest Drug de-addiction centre and keeping him away from drug peddlers. This chain of drug victims and drug peddlers has to be broken collectively including the society. The families have to be confident to bring back their child out of this menace as it is reversible.
Congratulating the organizers of the event, Kuldeep Khoda told the students to choose the right path to be a good earning hands for the family and make their career. This, he said, is only possible with hard work and disciplined life. He told students to remember the pledge they have taken; all that is told to them today by the Counselor and others including the message of nukkad play, and clean up their locality and the school. He advised them to stay away from peddlers and help their friends if trapped in this disease, to come to normal life, treating it as a bounded duty. He saluted two drug trapped students who came before everyone today bravely at the function and advised others to control themselves and stay away from this curse.
Dr Ashok Bhan also commended the initiative of the CGPWA & VKWS School on drug abuse and told the students that the God has charted a path for everyone including them which may have, at times, challenges but if they work hard with focused attention on rightful things, things are achievable. He said that those who are tempted to take drugs for a few minutes’ peace of mind, are going to destroy their career, lives and their families. He said that they have a bright future and should not go towards drugs to ruin them and their families.
Advocate Rameshwar Singh Jamwal, who also spoke on the occasion, referred to the Nukkad drama in which it was told that about 2 kg plus was drained out of drug affected person in the hospital, and said that narcotic substances adversely affect the internal system of the body and gradually destroy organs one after another. He suggested the school to tell the students in daily assembly the dangerous effects of these substances on their mind and body and said that what is taught to them at an impressionable age, will be remembered by them forever.
B R Sharma, in his presidential address, cautioned the students against falling in the trap of their classmates or friends to paint a ‘mental paradise’ for them by taking some substance which would be drugs. Such elements actually are your enemies who are damaging the society. He referred to the brief speech of Pudina Ram of the locality, and said the types of activities undertaken in a particular area or city would give a particular name to it. If good things are happening, the locality or the city will get a good reputation and activities on the contrary would only bring bad names. So, it is for the residents of the area to ponder over it and decide their course of action. They can refurbish the reputation of the locality by collectively fighting menace. He said that the parents, especially the mothers, can play an effective role by regularly monitoring the activities and actions of their children and save them from falling into such death traps.
Earlier, Smt Ruby Sharma, Chairperson of the Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam Welfare Society, which runs two schools for children of slum dwellers, welcomed the guests and said the function was not a ritual but a well-meaning effort to meet the challenge of drug abuse in the society, more so in the locality in the which school is functioning. Nasha Mukt Abhiyan is a serious attempt to bring the youth from the clutches of the drug menace and guide them towards the constructive path and bright future.

The Treasurer Smt Neeta Mehta presented the vote of thanks and the Principal Smt Yogita Bakshi conducted the proceedings.
