Congress revival of Beripattan- Sunderbani irrigation project ,threatens agitation


Sunderbani, March 05 (Scoop News)- Seeking urgent attention of the government, JKPCC Chief Spokesperson and former MLC Mr Ravinder Sharma has threatened mass agitation if the prestigious irrigation project of UPA government in Beripattan- Sunderbani is not revived & completed in time bound manner.

Addressing a meeting of Block Congress workers at Sunderbani, Mr Sharma regretted that the biggest irrigation project started in 2014 is lying abandoned after expenditure of around 18 crores .After change of government, the project turned into rough weathers starved due to sufficient funds from State government.

Sanctioned at the cost of 5q.08 cr on the instructions of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh ji, on his request, Sharma said it was aimed at benefitting hundreds of farmers of Kangri,Bajabain,Thichka,Bhajwal ,Tanda,Mudwal Tala,Ainpur,Bhenigala,Kalideh,Ghai,Nagara,Banpuri,Sodra etc,the lift canal was to irrigate 40,000 kanals of land. Apart from this, a mega filtration plant was also proposed to meet the drinking water needs of this dry belt.
However, the significant public oriented project is lying defunct for 12 years, leaving the farmers abd other population high and dry.
Seeking attention of the government, Mr Sharma met the Minister for Jal Shakti Shri Javed Rana and demanded immediate revival and funding for the project to meet the irrigation drinking water needs of vast population.

Senior Congress leader apprised the workers about the anti farmers and anti people US deal announced by Donald Trump which will affect the 72 percent population of farmers and poor people in the country. He also criticised the closing of MGNREGA scheme scheme which will deprive rural poor of job guarantee.
Block Presidents NC Sharma, Ajit Singh, Rajesh Jamwal, Capt Joginder Singh, Jeet Singh,Gurmeet Singh, Youth Presidents Govind Sudan, Pankaj Raina,Sagar Sharma, Anwar Chaudhary, Rajiv Chadha, Tilak Raj ,Yog Raj, Dwarka Nath Sharma, Ram Lal, Dr Ved Sudan, Om Parkash, Lok Raj Khajuria and Several senior Congress activists attended the meeting.
