| Safer Internet Day workshop on responsible use of AI held in Leh | | 
Leh, February 10 (Scoop News)-The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre (NIC), Leh, and the Information Technology Department, Leh, organised a workshop to mark Safer Internet Day under the theme “Safe and Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)”.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the growing impact of artificial intelligence, emerging cyber threats, and the importance of adopting safe digital practices.
Officials, students, and stakeholders from various departments participated in the programme.
Sonam, Consultant, IT Department, briefed the participants on the three key aspects of Safer Internet, highlighting the need for responsible usage, awareness of online risks, and adherence to cybersecurity practices.
During the workshop, Director, NIC Leh, Paldan delivered a detailed presentation outlining the objectives of organising such an awareness programme in view of the rapid expansion of AI technologies. He elaborated on the increasing risks of cybercrime, the need for effective mitigation strategies, and safeguarding mechanisms to respond to cyber emergencies. He also emphasised the significance of the Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA) projects and the role of citizen-centric digital services in strengthening cyber resilience.
Additionally, he discussed the advantages and disadvantages of the internet and artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on identifying major AI-driven threats and measures to protect individuals and institutions from potential cyber risks.
Sub-Inspector Dechen Yangdol, Cyber Crime Unit, Ladakh Police, highlighted that public awareness is the first line of defence against cyber fraud. She sensitised participants about various forms of cybercrime, including hacking, identity theft, cyber terrorism, cheating by personation using computers, and publishing obscene material in electronic form. She also explained how cyber fraudsters exploit human psychology and behavioural patterns to deceive victims, stressing the importance of vigilance and informed digital behaviour.
Arshil Khan, representing the Cyber Security Team from MeitY, shared insights into cybersecurity principles, the evolving cyber threat landscape, and the provisions of the Information Technology Act. He underscored the need for compliance with cyber laws and the adoption of best practices to ensure data protection and digital safety.
The workshop concluded with an interactive session that reinforced the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring a safer, more secure digital ecosystem, particularly in the era of rapidly advancing artificial intelligence.
