Arrangements for Maha Shivratri Festival reviewed at Jammu
Relief Commissioner calls for making adequate supplies in Migrant Camps, KP populated areas


Jammu, February 04 (Scoop News)-Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (M) J&K, Dr. Arvind Karwani today reviewed the arrangements for annual Maha Shivratri festival, scheduled on February 14-15, 2026.

Deputy Commissioner (Relief) , Vijay Kumar Sharma; Joint Director (Exn), Sheep Husbandry Department Jammu, Dr Tara Chand; Assistant Commissioner (Relief), Kailash Devi; Assistant Commissioner (Relief), Tej Krishan Koul; Assistant Commissioner (Relief), Sanjeev Kumar and officers from FCS&CA, Fisheries, Floriculture, Horticulture & Marketing, Jal Shakti, JPDCL, R&B (PW) Department, besides the representatives of Kashmiri Pandit Community from migrant camps and prominent non-camp areas attended the meeting.

The chair highlighted the importance of Maha Shivratri festival, particularly for the Kashmiri Pandit Community and emphasized the constitution of checking squads to monitor the quality and the rates of the essential commodities like flowers, pooja items, mutton, fish, vegetables, dairy products etc.

The Floriculture, fisheries and Horticulture Departments were asked to make available flowers (Bael/Bael leaves and Marigold), good quality Fish and Walnuts, green vegetables, especially Nadru at the migrant camps of Jagti, Muthi, Purkhoo and Nagrota and Non Camps areas, besides Durga Nagar, Roop Nagar, Janipur Colony, Anand Nagar, Bohri, Gangyal, Subash Nagar, Muthi, Udhaywala, Talab Tillo etc, during the festival days.

It was further informed that Trout Fish will be made available in migrant camps and other areas on demand. “Besides, a mobile van will be pressed into service to cater to the requirement from different areas,” the meeting was told.

The Jammu Municipal Corporation informed that a special cleanliness drive will be launched in all migrant camps and other non-camp areas where Kashmiri Pandits have a sizeable population. The Sheep Husbandry Department assured to make available adequate supply of mutton at reasonable rates in close coordination with Jammu Municipal Corporation.

JPDCL and Jal Shakti Departments were asked to take preemptive measures to provide uninterrupted electricity and water supply to all the migrant camps and non camps areas during the festival days. The officers of Jal Shakti Department and Jammu Municipal Corporation also assured to keep provision of potable drinking water supply through tankers also. The Jal Shakti Department was asked to conduct regular drinking water quality tests.
