Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra Visits Sites of Strategic and Tourism Importance in Kargil


Kargil, January 11 (Scoop News)-On the second day of his visit to Kargil, Chief Secretary, UT Ladakh, Ashish Kundra (IAS) toured several strategically important and tourism-related locations including Hundurman View Point, Sangam View Point and the Indian Army’s Post-43 located beyond Kharul.

At Hunderman, the Chief Secretary visited the LOC View Point which is being developed under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 Scheme. He was also briefed about the Lift Water Supply Scheme for Hundurman, a major project being executed at an estimated cost of ₹19.72 crore and is aimed at improving drinking water availability in the area.

During the visit, the Chief Secretary directed the Chief Engineer, PWD-Ladakh to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for road connectivity from Hunderman Broq to the proposed LOC View Point while emphasizing that construction of the road should be taken up on priority to improve accessibility and promote border tourism.
Villagers of Hunderman apprised the Chief Secretary of various long-pending demands including inclusion of Hunderman in the ALC list, widening of the Hunderman Broq Road, identification of sites for paragliding, declaration of Hunderman as a heritage village, construction of a new school building for Middle School Hunderman and inclusion of the village under the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP).
Responding to these issues, the Chief Secretary directed the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, and Tehsildar, Kargil, to explore the feasibility of inclusion of Hundurman under ALC. He also instructed the Administrative Secretary, School Education to take up the matter regarding the construction of a new school building. The Chief Secretary assured that other genuine issues raised by the villagers would also be examined and addressed in a phased manner.

The Chief Secretary was briefed about the viewing points and forward post development by Major Chinmay who also provided insights into the strategic importance of the area. He also visited the Old Hunderman Village and instructed the concerned departments to take necessary steps for its development and preservation, considering its historical and cultural significance.
At the Sangam View Point, the Chief Secretary directed the concerned departments to expedite works and complete Phase-I on war footing prior to the completion of the LOC View Point project.

Later, the Chief Secretary visited the Indian Army’s Post-43 beyond Kharul, where he interacted with the Brigadier Ashish Joshi, Station Commander of the 121 Infantry Brigade, other Army Officers and personnel. He lauded their dedication and assured them of full cooperation and necessary support from the civil administration. During the visit, he was accompanied by the Administrative Secretary, Education, Bhanu Prabha; Administrative Secretary, Public Health Engineering (PHE), Rahul Sharma; Administrative Secretary, Youth Services & Sports, Moses Kunzang, Managing Director, NHM-Ladakh; Director, School Education; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Chief Engineer, PWD- Ladakh, Superintending Engineer, PHE; Superintending Engineer,PWD-Kargil and Tehsildar, Kargil, besides other district officers and officials.
