NIT Srinagar hosts 118 engineering students from TKM College, Kerala

Srinagar, January 02 (Scoop News)- As part of an academic outreach and exposure programme, 118 final-year students of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) from TKM College of Engineering, Kollam, Kerala, accompanied by six faculty members, visited the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar to gain first-hand exposure to advanced research infrastructure, computing facilities, and ongoing research activities.

The visit was coordinated by the Head of the Department of Information Technology, NIT Srinagar, Dr. Shabir A. Sofi, who facilitated the interaction between the visiting delegation and the faculty, researchers, and administrators of the institute.

He said the primary objective of the visit was to enable students to understand large-scale computing environments, gain insights into research-driven academic ecosystems, and explore opportunities for higher education, innovation, and collaborative research.

The students were also briefed about the academic structure, research thrust areas, and technological capabilities of NIT Srinagar.

As part of the programme, research scholars from the Department of Information Technology, Aaqib Zahoor Shah and Mir Yousuf, delivered presentations outlining the institute’s ongoing research in areas such as information systems, emerging computing technologies, and interdisciplinary applications.

The presentations provided the visiting students with an overview of practical research challenges, methodologies, and innovation-oriented outcomes at NIT Srinagar.

During the interaction session, faculty members of NIT Srinagar, Dr. Ahsan Chishti, Dr. Faisal Mir, and Dr. Malik Parveez also engaged with the visiting students and faculty, shared insights on academic programmes, research opportunities, and interdisciplinary collaboration at the institute.

Director, NIT Srinagar, Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia in his message, highlighted the growing importance of research-based learning in engineering education.

He stated that exposure visits of this nature help bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world technological applications.

“NIT Srinagar continues to strengthen its research ecosystem through national and international collaborations and encouraged students to actively engage in innovation, entrepreneurship, and advanced research,” Prof. Kanaujia said.

I/C Director, Prof. Roohie Naaz Mir, interacted with the students and faculty members and reiterated NIT Srinagar’s commitment to fostering academic partnerships.

She assured full institutional support for future academic exchanges, joint research projects, faculty interaction programmes, and student collaborations between NIT Srinagar and TKM College of Engineering.

Registrar, NIT Srinagar, Prof. Atikur Rehman, briefed the delegation on the administrative framework, academic regulations, and research facilitation mechanisms of the institute.

He emphasized the institute’s focus on transparency, academic excellence, and creating a conducive environment for research and innovation.

The visiting delegation was headed by Dean Students Welfare, TKM College of Engineering, Dr. Shameem Ansari, who described the visit as academically enriching and professionally motivating for the students.

He said the exposure to NIT Srinagar’s research facilities and faculty expertise would significantly benefit the students as they prepare for higher studies and industry roles.

Earlier, the group was formally received by Security Officer, NIT Srinagar, Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, who ensured smooth coordination and security arrangements throughout the visit.

Officials from both institutions said the visit marks an important step toward strengthening inter-institutional cooperation, with discussions held on potential collaborations in research, student exchange programmes, and joint academic initiatives.
