J&K police take legal action against 144 vehicles for ownership violations in Shopian

Srinagar, December 12 (Scoop News)- In a week-long enforcement drive against traffic violations, J&K Police in Shopian took legal action against 144 vehicles bearing registration numbers of other states, found plying on roads without mandatory transfer of ownership after sale–purchase.

Special police teams were deployed across multiple locations to identify such vehicles. During the drive, several vehicles operating without proper transfer of ownership and without mandatory re-registration were found in violation, and action under the relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act has been initiated, including for non-registration and failure to transfer ownership. This action forms part of a sustained enforcement campaign carried out over the last few weeks, during which Shopian Police has already taken action against a large number of vehicles involved in similar violations.

J&K Police advises all vehicle owners to ensure timely transfer of ownership and completion of mandatory registration formalities after any sale–purchase transaction, as failure to comply will invite strict legal action. Similar enforcement drives will continue in the coming days. J&K Police remains committed to promoting road safety, accountability, and strict adherence to traffic laws across the district.
