| Senior Journalists petition PM, Others for Pension Scheme | | 
New Delhi,November 30 (Scoop News)- The Senior Journalists Federation of India has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of his visit to Goa this week.
The petition was handed over to the PM through Goa officials who accompanied him on his one-day visit. The SJFI vice president Suhasini Prabhugaonkar, senior leaders Gurudas Sawal, Subhash Naik and others met officials in connection with submission of memorandum to the PM.
Earlier, they also met Ms . Smita Vats, director general of the department of Information & Broadcasting, at the IFFI venue to submit the same charter of demands for the consideration of the Union Government.
In Bangalore, SJFI secretary general N P Chekkutty, vice president Anandam Pulipalupula, treasurer KP Vijayakumar, secretary K Shanthakumari and NEC member T Bhupati, R P Sambasadasiva Reddy and others met officials including K V Prabhakar, media advisor to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and presented the memorandum with various demands. Mr Prabhakar assured the Karnataka Government would support their genuine demands.
They also met the Republican party leader Venkat Swami at his residence with a request for support. He assured that the matter would be brought to the attention of Minister of State for Social Justice, Ramdas Athawale, for urgent action.
In Delhi, copies of the charter of demands were handed over to various officials and office bearers of the Press Club of India for support and action.
In the coming days copies of the memorandum will be sent to various political parties, members of Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and other important leaders to bring their attention to the urgent needs of senior journalists for a national pension scheme, a national welfare fund, healthcare facilities, etc. the SJFI has demanded the Central Government to set aside ten percent of the DAVP bills for building a corpus of fund to meet the welfare requirements of retired journalists who have received no social security support from media managements at the time of retirement. ... |
