NIT Srinagar celebrates 5th Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas

Srinagar, November 16 (Scoop News)-The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar celebrated the 5th Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas (JJGD) in line with directives from the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India.

The event, held under the supervision of Director NIT Srinagar Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, featured Prof. (HAG) Roohie Naaz Mir, In-charge Director, as the Chief Guest.

The celebrations were orchestrated by Dr. Kurella Swamy, Nodal Officer for Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, along with the other Coordinators, Dr. Ravi Kumar, Dr. Nitika Kundan, Dr. Pankaj Kumar and Dr. Anil Singhal.

The ceremony commenced with the lighting of a lamp and floral tributes to Baghwan Birsa Munda by Prof. Roohie Naaz.

In her key address, Prof. Roohie Naaz highlighted the historic importance of the day, emphasizing the fight of the Tribal Freedom fighters for equality.

Earlier she congratulated the winners and the participants of the various competitions held as part of the 5th JJGD celebrations.

Dr. Anil Singhal, Assistant Professor of English, HSSM Department, delivered an insightful talk on "The Current Sociopolitical Discourse and the Tribes in India."

He highlighted the challenges and opportunities faced by scheduled and non-scheduled indigenous communities in India, contextualizing them within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Dr. Singhal emphasized that tribal communities can serve as exemplary models for sustainable, healthy, and inclusive living.

A vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Kurella Swamy, Nodal Officer of Janjatiya Gaurav Gaurav Diwas Celebrations Committee.

He expressed his gratitude to Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Ministry of Education for the instructions to organise the Janjatiya Diwas Celebrations.



"I would like to express my sincere thanks to Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, Director, NIT Srinagar, for the directions, approvals and guidance in planning and conducting the various competitions such as Painting, Quiz, Essay, Declamation as part of the celebrations " he said.

Dr. Kurella also thanked student organizing committee members including Hitesh Bhardwaj, Tarun Attri, Shubham Verma, Nikhil, Suryansh Gorka, Riddhiman Thapa, Mitanshu Kumar, Aryan Kumar, Rupanshu Kundal, Harveen Singh, Aparjit Gorka, Saniyo Mangoch, Aditya and Neethi.

Harveen and Aditya moderated the program. Miss. Manisha Mehra and Mr. Saqlain Manzoor have presented the impactful speeches on the life of Bagwan Birsa Munda.

The event concluded with a felicitation ceremony, during which the winners of the various competitions held between 5-15 November, 2025 were honored with certificates and mementoes by the dignitaries.

In the Essay Writing Competition, Arnav Pal and Shreya Singh secured top positions.

In the Quiz Competition, the teams of Aqib Choudhary, Gourang Abrol, Yadhuveer Chouhan Abhinav Upadhyay, Aman Sharma, Aand arushi Verma emerged victorious.

In the Speech Declamation, Khushi Arora and Ariba Javed excelled among the students.

In the painting competition, Arun Kushwaha and Shalini Yadav were bagged the first and second places respectively.
