Former minister Education Priya Sethi pointed out that while Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has publicly stated that he is concerned about the welfare of the people of Jammu, the decision to locate the new Law University exclusively in Budgam raises questions about equitable development across the Union Territory.
“Education is the foundation of progress, and higher education institutions like a Law University are vital for empowering our youth,” Priya Sethi said. “It is important that development is balanced and inclusive. Jammu, like other region, deserves to benefit from such significant educational initiatives.”
Priya Sethi further emphasized that such regional imbalances can have long-term social and economic implications. She called upon policymakers to ensure that future development projects consider the needs of all regions, thereby fostering unity and equitable growth of the UT
The former minister also urged the government to actively engage with local representatives from Jammu to explore opportunities for similar institutions, ensuring that both Jammu and Kashmir have access to quality higher education facilities.
“This is not about politics; it’s about fairness, opportunity, and ensuring that no region feels left behind,” Priya Sethi added.
The announcement has sparked discussions across political and social platforms, with many highlighting the need for balanced development across all districts of the Union Territory. ... |
