IUST Conducts Health Awareness and NCD Screening in Tribal Village


Awantipora, October 17 (Scoop News)-Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) organised a Health Awareness and Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Screening Camp under its SSR Outreach Initiative at Brenpathri Nagbal, a tribal village in Tral, Pulwama. The initiative aimed to raise awareness among the Gujjar and Bakerwal communities about the risk factors, prevention, and management of NCDs such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory disorders, cancers, and PCOD.

Led by Dr. Faisal Ali, Senior Research Scientist (DST-PURSE), the team comprising Dr. Tabassum from the Centre for Ayush Science, Dr. Sumaira from DST-PURSE, and students of Medical Lab Technology, Centre for Vocational Studies conducted screenings and diagnostic tests for diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidaemia, anaemia, and vitamin D deficiency. Dr. Faisal Ali highlighted the higher prevalence of dyslipidaemia, hypertension, COPD, and anaemia among the tribal population of J&K, while the team emphasised healthy dietary habits and lifestyle modifications.

The program also included dietary counselling sessions for students of the local Government School. Over 115 patients were screened and provided free medicines and diagnostic tests as part of the outreach effort.
