Mining Contractor accuses Omar Govt of injustice | says formalities completed but work denied | Jammu, October 01 (Scoop News)-Mining contractor Naresh Singh has alleged that the appointment of Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary by National Conference leader Omar Abdullah has resulted in what he termed as “a punishment for the people of Jammu.” Singh claimed that despite fulfilling all legal and financial requirements, he has been unfairly denied the right to begin operations. Speaking to reporters, Singh said, “Omar Abdullah has imposed Surinder Choudhary on the people of Jammu as Deputy Chief Minister to punish them. This is nothing but injustice to us and the local mining industry.” He clarified that all the mandatory formalities required to commence mining activities have been duly completed within the stipulated timeframe. “We have obtained approval of the Mining Plan, secured Consent to Operate (CTO) from the Pollution Control Board, and even received Environment Clearance (EC). Every formality is complete,” Singh said. On the financial front, Singh maintained that full payments were deposited on time. “I have deposited the entire amount of Rs 2 crore 25 lakh and 73 thousand along with 2% Income Tax as per government norms. Despite this, operations are not being allowed to start. This is harassment of a law-abiding contractor,” he stated. Singh further added that the delay and obstacles are not just affecting individual contractors but also the wider community dependent on mining for their livelihood. “If government-approved contractors are stopped despite compliance, how will genuine business survive? This will only encourage illegal mining and black-market practices,” he warned. The contractor appealed to the administration to intervene and ensure that justice is delivered. “We are not asking for any favor. We only demand that work be allowed to start after fulfilling every condition and making all payments. Otherwise, this will send a wrong message to genuine investors and contractors in Jammu & Kashmir,” Singh asserted. The matter has sparked fresh debate in Jammu’s business circles, with many stakeholders echoing concerns about transparency, fairness, and accountability in the mining sector. ... |
