| 60 years of the glory: Battle of Hajipur | |
Srinagar, August 29 (Scoop News)- The Battle of Hajipir took place during the Indo-Pak war of 1965 in Jammu & Kashmir. The pass located at about 8,600 feet altitude was of great strategic importance as it was being used by Pakistan to infiltrate armed raiders into Kashmir. The operation was launched on 26 August 1965 by the Indian Army with the task of capturing the pass. Despite extremely rugged terrain, poor weather and stiff enemy resistance, Indian troops showed remarkable resolve and courage and in daring assault, the troops of Dagger Division captured Hajipir Pass on 29 Aug 1965. This battle remains a shining example of grit and bravery in Military History.
Chinar Corps of Indian Army commemorated the 60th Anniversary of the capture of Hajipir Pass at Rampur, Baramulla. The milestone event was chaired by Chinar Corps Commander, GOC, Dagger Division and was graced by distinguished war veterans with their families and civil dignitaries underscoring the historic significance of the occasion.
The Tricolour was hoisted at Cheetah Post overlooking the Baramulla town and the Jhelum river and in a solemn ceremony homage was paid to the brave soldiers of the Dagger Division who participated in the legendary assault. Veterans shared anecdotes and inspiring recollections of their service.
The highlight of the celebrations was a virtual Sand Art movie by acclaimed artist Shri Sudhakant, in addition Army Brass Band's heroic anthems were followed by enthusiastic cultural performance by locals and finally the event culminated with the performance by the local band, Strings of Baramulla. Overall, the event recognised six decades of valour and sacrifice, strengthening the bond between the Indian Army and citizens while honouring the legacy of Hajipir Operation.
