Nepotism, inefficiency, and neglect of citizens’ concerns Return under NC government: GL Raina

Jammu, August 28 (Scoop News)-The people of Jammu and Kashmir are well aware that whenever the National Conference (NC) and its allies hold political control, the result has consistently been a governance system plagued by nepotism, inefficiency, corruption, and neglect of citizens’ concerns. Unfortunately, the present dispensation is no exception. This was stated by Girdhari Lal Raina, former MLC and spokesperson of BJP.

Instead of delivering on promises made to the electorate, the Omar Abdullah-led government has chosen to politicize narratives rather than consolidate and build upon the progress achieved in recent years, GL Raina observed. This misplaced priority is most glaring at a time when natural calamities—cloudbursts and other disasters—have claimed numerous lives and caused widespread damage to infrastructure and private property. At such a critical juncture, the government’s energies are being wasted on signature campaigns and political gimmickry, betraying insensitivity towards the suffering of the people, he added.

This is not an isolated instance. The NC has a long history of deflecting accountability by invoking an idealized but unrealistic alternative to democratic framework, thereby diverting attention from their repeated failures in governance. He asserted that such political maneuvering comes at the direct cost of efficient administration and service delivery.

Referring to the recent developments in the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department serve as a stark example, he quipped that The department, tasked with implementing the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), has been exposed for its failure to safeguard the scheme against fraudulent practices. Unscrupulous elements have created unauthorized clone applications to generate fake attendance records, thereby siphoning benefits away from genuine workers. While the department has belatedly lodged an FIR with the Cyber Investigation Centre of Excellence (CICE), its delayed response raises serious questions.

Ex MLC stressed that the accountability cannot stop at lodging complaints. The department, including the Minister-in-charge, must explain to the public the extent of the damage—how many fake beneficiaries have usurped the rights of legitimate claimants, and how much public money has been lost. Ultimately, the Chief Minister bears responsibility. Under his watch, such lapses are not isolated incidents but part of a wider pattern of mismanagement across departments. Silence is not an option; the people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve answers and accountability
