District-Level 79th Independence Day Celebrations at SPPND GDC Samba


Jammu, August 08 (Scoop News)-Shri Pandit Prem Nath Dogra Government Degree College, Samba, hosted the District-Level 79th Independence Day Celebrations under the guidance of Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Twinkle Suri, bringing together students from all govt colleges of Samba district in a vibrant display of patriotism, talent, and cultural unity.
The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and a welcome address by Prof. Rashi Gupta, Coordinator of the event. Competitions across multiple categories showcased the creativity and spirit of the youth. In the National Anthem Singing Competition, Mridula Jasrotia (GDC Samba) secured first position in the solo category, while Diksha, Mridula, Tapasvi, and Ritika (GDC Samba) won in the group category.The event was adjudged by Dr Kuldeep Raina and Dr Jasmeet Kour , Heads of Department Music from GDC Bishnah and GDC RS Pura.
An Essay Writing Competition on Role of Education in Promoting Peace and National Unity saw Ritika Sharma (GDC Samba) take first place, followed by Bhumika Sharma (GDC Ramgarh) and Taniya Devi (GDC Ghagwal). The Seminar on Role of J&K Youth in Achieving Viksit Bharat@2047 was topped by Suvidha Sambyal (GDC Samba), with Ria Devi (GDC Ghagwal) and Poonam Sharma (GDC Purmandal) in second and third places. In the Painting Competition on Portraits of Unsung Heroes of Independence ,Sheetal Devi (GDC Samba) clinched first, followed by Shabnam Devi (GDC Ghagwal) and Sonika Devi (GDC Ramgarh). The jury included Dr. Banpreet Kour and Dr. Vaani Awasthi ( GDC Ghagwal) in Seminar, Dr. Anamika Baru ( GDC Kathua) and Dr. Shabila Wani in Painting and Dr. Anupama Sharma and Dr.Vaani Awasthi in Essay Writing.
A Wall of Unsung Heroes curated by the department of History was inaugurated to honour lesser-known freedom fighters, alongside a plantation drive encouraging students to honour both their mothers and Mother Earth through tree planting.
Congratulating the winners, the Principal said the occasion was a reminder to salute the heroes of India’s Independence and uphold the values they fought for. The winners shall be representing Samba district at the divisional level contests from 11th August,2025 and shall be felicitated by the District Administration on 15th August,2025. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Assoc. Prof. Seema Sharma, Convener Students’ Welfare.
