Congress raises Key Questions Ahead of PM Modi’s Visit | seek statehood ,special package for border areas, unemployed, POJK and Kashmir displaced | 
Jammu, June 05 (Scoop News)-On the eve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit tomorrow, the Congress Party has raised several critical questions for the Prime Minister to address during his visit.
The party has demanded clear answers on the current security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the wake of recent escalations and concerns among the civilian population.
Addressing a press conference here today, JKPCC Working President Raman Bhalla, Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, Senior leaders Th Balwan Singh & Ved Mahajan besides Neeraj Gupta chief media coordinator & Jatin Vashisht ,the Congress also emphasized the long-pending issue of restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, questioning the government’s delay and lack of a clear timeline.
In addition, the party questioned the disparity in rights and constitutional safeguards being extended to other region of erstwhile J&K state ' Ladakh and asking why the same entitlements and democratic provisions are not being ensured for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Bhalla also expressed grave concern over the recent attack at Pehalgam asking who is responsible for the security lapse and action being taken apart from the status of terrorist group behind attack being active for over 18 months ,having carried out three earlier terrorist attacks in the valley.
He also condemned Pakistan for targeting civilian areas urging the Prime Minister to explain the Centre’s response strategy to safeguard border population, demanding special central package for relief,rehabilitation and employment & bunkers besides five marla plots to border residents.
Senior Congress leaders called on the Prime Minister to rise above optics and address the core issues concerning the people of the region with sincerity and accountability.
They questioned the status of refugee package recommended by state government in 2014 to centre of 30 lakh per family but only meagre amount was sanctioned demanding complete package for them.
They also criticised the the failures of BJP government to fulfill promises with displaced Kashmir community and demanded extension of Dr Manmohan Singh package for their relief,return and rehabilitation.
The Congress also asked PM Modi to reign in and take action against the loose canons and others from using derogatory language against women and armed forces.
They asserted that extension of Railway to Jammu, Udhampur was done by Indira Gandhi and further extended to Katra and Baramula from Banihal by UPA government headed by Dr Manmohan Singh, while the stretch fromKatra to Banihal took eleven years due to tough terrain while asking status of Jammu Poonch and Kathua Bhaderwah - Kishtwar Railway projects, seeking their early sanction. ... |
