Displaced Kashmiri Pandits observes Martyrs' Day with protest rally at Jantar Mantar | Panun Kashmir reiterates call for community to refrain from participating in the upcoming elections | New Delhi, September 14 (Scoop News)-: A powerful protest rally was organized at Jantar Mantar today to mark Martyrs' Day, paying tribute to the Kashmiri Pandits who have been victims of genocide and displacement. The event was organized by Panun Kashmir, Kashmiri Samiti Delhi, Roots in Kashmir, Kashmiri Pandit Conference (Kundan Kashmiri), and Youth for Panun Kashmir (Y4PK). The rally saw prominent speakers, including Dr. Ajay Chrungoo, Chairman of Panun Kashmir, Kuldeep Raina, General Secretary of Panun Kashmir, Vithal Choudhary, President of Y4PK, Dr. Shakti Bhan, Lalit Ambardar, Sameer Chrungoo, President of Kashmiri Samiti Delhi, Rajender Premi S/O Shaheed Sarvanand premi ji Amit Raina and Kundan Kashmiri of the Kashmiri Pandit Conference.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ajay Chrungoo reiterated Panun Kashmir’s call for the community to refrain from participating in the upcoming elections, stating, "These elections are meaningless for Kashmiri Pandits. They do not address our concerns, and any participation only endorses a process that continues to ignore our genocide and displacement." He also emphasized the need for the enactment of the Genocide Bill, originally proposed by Panun Kashmir in 2020, saying, "We need formal recognition of the atrocities committed against our people, and this bill is crucial for securing justice and preventing future violations."
Vithal Choudhary, President of Y4PK, expanded on the reasons for boycotting the elections, saying, "Refraining from elections is a refusal to participate in a system that has failed us for over three decades. The idea of using NOTA is not enough—it still legitimizes a process that refuses to acknowledge our genocide. Youth for Panun Kashmir is committed to ensuring that our history is not erased, and our struggle for justice continues."
Sameer Chrungoo, President of Kashmiri Samiti Delhi, voiced his concerns about the government’s continued negligence, stating, "Our people have been reduced to political tokens with no substantial progress in their rehabilitation. Instead of hollow promises, we need concrete actions, starting with the enactment of the Genocide Bill."
Dr. Shakti Bhan, a prominent community leader, echoed the sentiment of the crowd, saying, "This is not just a commemoration but a day of resolve. We must ensure that the world recognizes the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits and that justice is served."
Lalit Ambardar, a well-known activist, emphasized the importance of international recognition of the Kashmiri Pandit genocide. "Our fight is not just for justice within India, but globally. We will continue to raise our voices on every platform to ensure that the truth of our suffering is acknowledged and acted upon," he stated.
Kundan Kashmiri of the Kashmiri Pandit Conference called for unity among the Kashmiri Pandit organizations and communities, asserting, "This rally demonstrates the strength and unity of our community. We stand together in our fight for justice, and we will not rest until our demands are met."
Following the speeches, the following resolutions were unanimously adopted:
Refrain from Assembly Elections: Kashmiri Pandits will refrain from participating in the upcoming assembly elections, deeming them meaningless for the community's aspirations and rights.
Enactment of the Genocide Bill: The community demands the immediate enactment of the Genocide Bill, as promised by Panun Kashmir, to ensure the legal recognition of the atrocities committed against Kashmiri Pandits.
Establishment of a Commission: Instead of a White Paper, the community demands the establishment of a commission headed by a Supreme Court judge, as envisioned in the proposed Genocide Bill, to investigate the genocide and ensure accountability.
Prohibition of the Term 'Migrant': The term 'migrant' is deemed derogatory and should be prohibited from being used to describe the displaced Kashmiri Pandit community, as it undermines the reality of their genocide and displacement.
The rally, marked by the collective resolve of the Kashmiri Pandit community, concluded with a pledge to continue the fight for justice, recognition of their genocide, and a secure homeland for the exiled community. ... |
