| Multilingual News Initiative Celebrates 3 Years of Bringing Voices to Chenab Valley | | Kishtwar, January 21 (Scoop News)-The Chenab Times' pioneering "Multilingual News Initiative" (MNI) marked a remarkable milestone on January 21st, 2024, as it celebrated three years of bringing news to the diverse communities of the Chenab Valley in their native tongues. This initiative, which started with Urdu and Sarazi languages, has grown to encompass Bhaderwahi and Gojri, and even introduced a first-of-its-kind Chenabi version of Kashmiri.
Speaking on this milestone, Anzer Ayoob, founder and Chief Editor of The Chenab Times, expressed his elation at MNI's journey. "We started with a dream of empowering our communities by giving them access to news in their own languages. Three years later, seeing the impact we've made fills me with immense pride. We've given a voice to the voiceless and brought the world closer to the rich tapestry of cultures and languages in our valley."
The journey hasn't been without its challenges. "Adding Bhaderwahi was a particularly daunting task," shared Farid Ahmed Naik, a key member of the MNI team. "But Naeem ul Haq Wani's dedication and Raja Shakeel's captivating storytelling in Bhaderwahi made it a resounding success."
MNI's success can be attributed to the unwavering support of individuals like former Sub Divisional Magistrate Athar Amin Zargar, writer Shadab Farooq, and Oxford University professor Rasmus Kleis Nielsen. Their initial appreciation and encouragement fueled the team's spirit. On the ground, the tireless efforts of team members like Saima Fani (now an Urdu and Gojri anchor), Raja Irfan, and Raja Khaleeq Anjum were instrumental in keeping the initiative afloat.
Looking ahead, MNI has ambitious plans. "Our goal is to add all the lesser-known languages of the region," declared Ayoob. "We also want to expand our reach and inspire similar initiatives across the country. We believe that everyone deserves to hear news in their own language, and we're committed to making that happen."
The Chenab Times' commitment to preserving and promoting linguistic diversity is not limited to MNI. In February 2023, they registered the Chenab Times Foundation as a trust, focusing on art, culture, and addressing public grievances. This holistic approach ensures that the Chenab Valley's unique cultural heritage is not only celebrated but also nurtured for future generations. ... |
