Archives Dept Leh celebrates Iconic Week


Leh, October 26 (Scoop News)-The Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, Leh celebrated Iconic Week as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration by organising an awareness programme on registration of antiquities in the custody of individual and private institutions of Ladakh, at Archives Office, Leh. Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh, Stanzin Chosphel was the chief guest during the inaugural ceremony of the three-day registration camp.
Appreciating the efforts of the Archives Department, EC Chosphel stated that such awareness programmes on registration of antiquities should be organised in future in a decentralised manner to sensitise the custodians of antique artefacts about its immense cultural and heritage value. He added that this would play a role in preserving and conserving our culture too.
It was decided during the meeting to organise block-wise registration camps in the upcoming winter months, followed by an exhibition or seminar in April-May 2022. EC Chosphel shared that such initiatives would give a boost to culture and heritage-based tourism in the region.
Appreciating the individual and private institutions, who had come to register their antique artefacts, EC Chosphel assured to provide all support in their endeavour to preserve and promote the rich culture and heritage of Ladakh. He urged them to avail of numerous schemes of the central government in this respect. He stressed that the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Council would support and provide necessary tie-ups with recognised national institutions and organisations.
Earlier, Registering Officer, Antiquities, Leh, Khadim Hussain shared that the artefacts are registered under the Antiquities and Art Treasures Act, 1972 and spoke about the schemes and grants available for the preservation of antique artefacts.
Several antique artefacts, including manuscripts, rugs, vessels and masks owned by individuals and private institutions, were registered at the event.
