Disposal of case properties, vehicles in police stations: Khanna writes to Lieutenant Governors of Jammu Kashmir & Ladakh UTs

Jammu, July 01 (Scoop News)- National Vice President of Bharatiya Janata Party and former Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha & Lok Sabha, Avinash Rai Khanna, has written to the Lieutenant Governors of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh UTs taking up the issue of disposal of case properties and vehicles lying in police stations across the UTs.
Khanna has written similar letters to all the Chief Ministers and Governors of States and other Union Territories.
He has brought into their notice the orders of Supreme Court in a writ petition (c) No. 14 of 2008, decided on 19/4/2010 that has directed all the state governments, Union Territory Administrators and Director Generals of Police to ensure macro implementation of the provisions of section 451 and 457 of CPRC, which is the disposal of properties like vehicles etc. lying in the police stations.
In 2015, as MP Rajya Sabha, Khanna also raised the issue in Rajya Sabha and reply to this question, the Minister of State, Home, had stated that the Government of India have issued suitable advisory to the state governments and UTs.
“States /UTs should ensure that Supreme Court’s orders are implemented in letter and spirit. Or else as per the observation of Supreme Court, anybody can bring into notice of the court about non-compliance of the directions of the court and the court would be compelled to take contempt action,” he said.
Khanna elaborated that disposing off the unnecessary case properties would ensure that lots of police stations are vacated off the piles of unwanted material and the police stations are given better look. “The proper disposal of this property will also mean saving national property, which is otherwise gathering dust,” he said.
