DPs from Muzaffarabad join PoK DPs’ chain dharna on day 23rd

Jammu,January 18 (Scoop News)- The ongoing indefinite chain dharna by the PoK Displaced Persons entered into 23rd consecutive day on Friday.

Amidst raising of slogans, today’s chain dharna was held by the group of Displaced Persons from Muzaffarabad, led by Bhai Ram Singh, who was joined by Giani Sujan Singh, Jagjit Singh, Gurdip Singh, Himat Singh, Sewa Singh The indefinite dharna is being organized under the banner of SOS-International, a prominent organization of PoK Displaced Persons, led by its Chairman Rajiv Chuni.

They are demanding implementation of the whole package passed by State Cabinet in October 2014 for PoK Displaced Persons, providing facilities to all displaced at par with Valley Migrants, reservation of eight Assembly seats for the people displaced from PoK, permit PoK DPs to visit their religious places in Pak occupied Jammu Kashmir, inclusion of 5,300 PoK DP families living outside the State in the ambit of package passed in October 2014 and return of cash deposits with interest to PoK DPs lying with J&K Bank Mirpur.

While leading the dharna, Bhai Ram Singh lambasted the Modi Government at Centre and Governor’s administration in Jammu Kashmir for turning Nelson’s eye towards plights of PoK Displaced Persons, who had high hopes from BJP. “Earlier, we were under impression that Congress was insensitive towards our grievances and demands but continuation of step motherly treatment to us since 2014 when BJP assumed power at Centre as well as in J&K, has established that DNA of all political parties is the same,” he explained.

Recalling the horrifying days of his exodus from Muzaffarabad following killing of his parents and all the family members by invading tribals, Bhai Ram Singh said similar was the tale of all Displaced Persons from PoK, who had to flee for their lives leaving all their moveable and immoveable property there. ““As an orphan child, I worked as labourer, cleanses utensils at Dhabas and faced extreme hardships in managing two-time meal with a hope that a day would come when the Government will either rehabilitate us in Muzaffarabad or adequately compensate against the same,” he said and rued that nothing was done for the Displaced Persons till date except lip service thus forcing the community to adopt agitational path.

Justifying the demands, Bhai Ram Singh said that reservation for PoK displaced Persons would secure the future of their children to some extent while a monthly relief of Rs 20 thousand to each family would help the community to survive. “We want to pay obeisance at Chatti Patshahi Gurudwara and Sharda Peeth but there is no one in this Government to feel our religious emotions,” he rued and pledged to continue struggle till their demands are accepted.
