CRPF pays tribute to martyrs
Jammu, October 14 (Scoop News)-It is well known to all of us that every year Police forces observe Police Commemoration Day on 21 October. History of CRPF is also full of numerous stories of bravery and martyrdom. On this occasion, Let’s remember those heroes of Jammu and Kashmir who laid down their lives while performing their duties in CRPF and made supreme sacrifice in the service of the Nation. CRPF pays tribute to these martyrs and expresses its indebtedness towards their families.
On the 23rd November 2005, at about 1430 hrs, two militants dressed in civvies, taking advantage of the crowd, fired heavily and lobbed grenades at the main gate sentry post of the company location of 96 Bn CRPF at Firdous Cinema, District Srinagar. The guard commander and sentry fired at the militants and gunned down one of them. But in the process, they too received severe injuries. Taking advantage, the second militant sneaked into the camp while firing indiscriminately. He rushed straight to the barracks and opened fire inside the barracks. At this juncture two brave troopers of CRPF pounced on him and over powered him. The militant tried to flee and retaliate but was gunned down by the troops. In the fierce gunfight 3 brave troopers of CRPF, namely, Shaheed HC Rugha Ram, Shaheed HC Subhash Chander and Shaheed Ct. V.P. Chandran scarified their lives and attained martyrdom. Two militants were neutralized by the brave troopers with recovery of two AK rifles, 8 magazines, 159 rounds of ammunitions and 7 Chinese grenades. The operation highlights the bravery of troops where they took on a fidayeen unarmed, without caring for their lives.


On the 17th May 2011, troops of 2 Bn CRPF were going to there Bn HQ at Sukma from the company base at Kerlapal. As their vehicles reached near village Ramaram, PS-Sukma, District Dantewada, Maoists waiting in an ambush blasted a powerful IED followed by indiscriminate firing. The vehicle came under the impact of the blast and its occupants sustained severe injuries. But despite sustaining injuries, the troopers grabbed held to their weapons and fired at the Maoists. The retaliation from the injured troopers forced the Maoists to abort their plan of looting the weapons. Of the injured, Shaheed HC Abdul Quyoom, Shaheed Ct/Ftr Ajit Pratap Singh, Shaheed Ct/Dvr Rashpal Chander, Shaheed Ct Anthony Minz, Shaheed CT Sanjay Kumar, Shaheed CT S S Pathania and Shaheed Ct Surender Singh succumbed to their injuries and attained martyrdom.
