| Annual Ladakh Festival to commence on Sept 22. | | Leh,September 19 (Scoop News)-Ladakh Festival, 2018 will be commenced from 22nd to 25th September which is an annual festival of Leh district celebrated every year with the dual objective of lengthening tourist season in Leh and to promote the glorious cultural heritage of Ladakh in outside world. It is organised jointly by LAHDC, Leh and J&K Tourism Department.
As per past practice, this year also Ladakh Festival will begin with a colourful procession of cultural troupes from all part of the district and school children performing on traditional musical orchestra starting from Karzoo through Leh market that finally ends at Polo-ground, Leh. Villagers from Nubra, Changthang, central Ladakh and Shaam regions come in their traditional attire to participate in the celebration of the 4 days Ladakh festival.
On Sept 22, 2018 the cultural procession will start at 9:00 am from Karzoo followed by inaugural function at Polo-ground, Leh. The other highlights of the day will be Photo Exhibition of Birds and mammals of Ladakh by WCBL (Ladakh Bird Club) in main market from 10 am to 4 pm.
At LAMO Centre, Kharyog, Leh there will be Art Exhibition theme: Birds of Ladakh and archival photo exhibition from 10 am to 4 pm, Talk series: Sustainable/rural tourism/spirituality and environment at 2 pm and Screening of films/documentaries on Ladakh at 3 pm. Live demonstration of contemporary sculpture and exhibition at Onpo House, Kharyog, Leh from 2 pm to 5 pm. Folk singing by veteran folk artists of Ladakh headed by renowned folk singer Tsering Stanzin at Lonpo House, Kharyog, Leh at 4 pm.
All these events will be there on all the 4 days of Ladakh Festival with slight change in timing.
The highlight events on the 2nd day of the Festival will be the inauguration of mask dance (chaams) performance and Thanka exhibition at Chowkhang Vihara in Leh main market at 11 am to 2 pm. It will follow on the 3rd day also at same venue, same time. Another special event of the day is demonstration of paragliding by Stanzin Sonam (solo pilot) at Warila/Zingral. In the afternoon there will be
inauguration of Handicraft exhibition and food stall exhibition in Leh main market at 2 pm and inauguration of Archery competition at Municipal Committee, Balkhang Park, Leh at 2:30 pm. Same day in the evening there will be inauguration of Polo match at Polo-ground, Leh at 4 pm to 6 pm. This time 6 teams are participating including teams from Drass, Turtuk and Wakha. From 6 pm onwards there will be music concert at Leh main market.
On 3rd and last day all the above mentioned events will be conducted at same venue and time. The concluding function of Ladakh Festival, 2018 will be held on September 25 in Leh market near Masjid followed by music concert at 6 pm.
During the Ladakh Festival all the government employees have been asked to come in traditional dress and general public is also requested to wear traditional attire during the festival. It is a day
for every Ladakhi and specially for tourists to experience and enjoy the cultural richness of Ladakhi tradition at one place during the Ladakh Festival.
