40th General Orientation course concludes at University of Jammu


Jammu, September 11 (Scoop News)-The 40th General Orientation course for University and college teachers, organized by the UGC Human Resource Centre, University of Jammu through the course coordinators, Department of Home Science, University of Jammu successfully concluded today. In the course, College teachers from different states of India and various regions of J&K participated. The orientation course was organized to make the teachers as stake holders and agents of socio-economic change in this rapidly changing world and to sharpen their skills for national development. The idea is to let the teachers have latest knowledge of linkages between society, environment, development and education, so that they acquire necessary skills from different fields and are in a position to prepare their students for their onward strides in life with such objectives and skills.
The valedictory function began by observing two minutes silence as a mark of respect to a well known social activist and educationist Prof. Rita Jitendar. She was a resource person for the orientation course and through her sessions had made an instant bond with the participants. She was a living epitome of knowledge, compassion and ethics. During the course the participants were addressed by an array of intellectuals, social activists, lawyers, Retired Professors, Professional from different fields, educationists and many others, who not only shared their special knowledge and skills in fields ranging from leadership and communication skills, gender justice, service matters and financial rules, holistic well being, e-governance, project writing, emotional intelligence, legal rules, online course and higher education, health and lifestyle disorders. They also gave successful tips to the participants for the later stages of their careers and lives. Some of the eminent resource persons for the course included Sh. Arun Manhas (Addl DC, Samba), Sh. Amit Sharma (Director, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs), Dr. Raj Rishi (Senior Consultant, Govt. Hospital, Gandhi Nagar), Dr. Vasanta Kohli (GMC), Ms. Bharti Sambyal (Deputy Director, Funds), Prof. Jigar Mohd. (Dean Research Studies, JU), Prof. Rajni Kant (Director, Colleges Development, JU), Sh. Sanjeev Mahajan (Controller Examination, JU), Prof. Arvind Jasrotia (Director, Law School, JU), Prof. Darshna Sharma (Director, DDE, JU), Prof Jasbir Singh, Prof. Anil Raina and many others.
Prof. J.P.S. Joorel, Director Human Resource Development Centre, University of Jammu, was the Chief guest for the valedictory function and emphasized the need of the faculty members to keep their knowledge updated and relevant. He appreciated the efforts of the organizers, whose painstaking efforts led to the successful completion of the programme. He said that in the times to come teachers of the Higher education will have to reinvent themselves and will have to expose themselves to the knowledge of designing and using online courses.
Prof. Rajni Dhingra, Former Dean Faculty of Science hoped that the course will infuse the participants with new vigour and enthusiasm. Prof. Neeru Sharma, Chairperson, Campus Sports Committee, University of Jammu also while interacting with the participants emphasized on the role of orientation courses in preparing the teachers for fulfilling their duties. Prof. Shashi Manhas, HOD, Deptt. Of Home Science and Course Coordinator, gave the details of the entire programme and appreciated not only the resource persons but also the participants for making the course successful. She said that the interesting themes, on which the resource persons spoke, were innovative and can help in changing the mindsets of students ,through the efforts of participants. Dr. Sarika Manhas (Associate Prof), Course Co-coordinator thanked the HRDC, University of Jammu for giving the Department of Home Science an opportunity to organize the course. She hoped that the participants have important take aways from the course which will help them in their respective work fields. Formal Vote of thanks was proposed by Mr.Ranjeet Kalra, Asstt. Director, HRDC, JU, who wished the participants success for their onward journey as teachers and researchers. He appreciated the role of Resource persons, participants, teaching and non teaching staff of Departments, teachers and all those who made the programme successful. Others who participated in the programme included Dr. Samridhi Arora (Associate Prof), Dr. Nirojini Bhan (Asstt. Prof). The program proceedings were conducted by Dr. Priyanka Sharma (Research Assistant).
