The project of widening of B.C. road and constructing flyover on this and in the New Plot-Janipur road are not expected to start atleast during this regime. It is worth to mention that the flyover from Shakuntla to Ambphalla was envisaged in 2003, survey was conducted for this and Rs. 35 crore was sanctioned by the Asian Development Bank for the project. “It is unfortune that present Minister PWD has completely ruled out for undertaking it, inspite of the fact that B.C. Road is a bottle neck for the movement of the vehicles”, Prof. Virender said. He said flyovers, widening of road connecting Ambphalla to Janipur and that for Jewal Chowk to Talab Tillo connection are of dire need, while looking at the traffic congestion. The much needed project of sewerage and drainage diverting the nallahs of city those are polluting river tawi and commissioning of water treatment plant, which was started in 2006 is still waiting for its completion. He said that work on this project along with construction of artificial lakh, that started in 2008-09, construction of pathway and parks along the bank of Tawi River, on the pattern of Sabarmati river, need to be started on war footing to cultivate Jammu city as a tourist spot that can be able to attract the visitors and enhance the business of local population. He added that in this direction the Bahu Fort cable car project which was planned in 2002 needs its completion at the earliest.
The Spokesperson also expressed his concern on the slow pace of work on Patnitop rope project which was planned about 10 years before in 2007. He also highlighted that much needed sewerage treatment plant at Patnitop is also victim of delay on the part of Urban Environment Engineering Department. He added that design and construction of Sewerage Treatment Plant including trunk laying, lateral and house connection chambers and all other related work was allotted to a firm at the cost of Rs. 11.60 crore. He said it is matter of concern that the work which was to be completed within two years but till date only 25 per cent of work is done despite the lapse of 3 years and is still hanging in balance.
Prof. Virender said that the projects mentioned above are of prime importance, particularly to develop Patnitop and make Jammu city as a model city and appealed the concerned Ministers and departments to put their due efforts so that these can see their completion within shortest possible time so as to take care of the concerns of the people of Jammu.
