Workshop for milk, milk products sellers held
many challaned for not maintaining norms

Jammu, January 15, (Scoop News)- To keep hygiene and sanitation at all levels, a workshop for milk and milk products sellers was held at Canal Road, here.
Food safety team led by Dr Parvesh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety Jammu along with food safety officers namely Hans Raj, Jai Inder Singh, Daleep Singh and Ajay Khajuria apprised the shopkeepers and milk handlers about norms of Food Safety and Standards Act.
Dr Parvesh Kumar asked them to buy milk from the registered licence holders and took steps to maintain hygiene while dealing with milk products.
“The hygienic handling and protection of raw materials and of milk and milk products such as milk, cheese, curd and other milk products are to be kept in stainless steel containers and in separate forms along with hygienic waters supply”, he said, adding that there should be separate signage for milk, cow’s milk, buffalo’s milk and mixed milk. There should be separate emblem on the containers of the sellers and the sellers should maintain personal hygiene including dress code and wash his utensils twice with the detergents, he added.
Dr Parvesh Kumar further stated that the tanks which are being used for transportation of milk and products should be washed twice daily and separate manufacturing area should be to maintain by sellers.
The sellers selling the milk door to door by coming from adjoining areas of the city should be registered immediately without any delay, he said that they are going to start a toll free number for people who buy milk at their door steps to get their milk checked in case they find it to be adulterated.
“The production of heat treated milk and production of other milk products which might pose risk of contamination to others should be cleaned”, he informed.
He warned the participants of action, if they indulge in adulteration.
Later, Dr Parvesh Kumar inspected various shops and challaned them for not maintaining norms. He instructed the shopkeepers and vendors selling eatables to maintain all the norms of Food Safety and Standards Act like food labeling, not to add colour additive, not to use artificial khoya, etc so to keep hygiene and sanitation at all levels.
