Jammu, March, 08 (Scoop News)- To discuss measures and strategies for preserving the heritage of the State, in the form of tangible, in-tangible and natural sites, a high level meeting was held here today with Minister for Tourism and Culture, Nawang Ragzin Jora in the chair
Minister of State for Tourism, Nazir Aslam Wani, Secretary Tourism s. Tanveen Jahan, Director Tourism, Jammu, B.N. Sahni, Municipal Commissioner, Jammu, Mubarak Singh, Convenor INTAC, Salim Beigh, Deputy Superintendent, Archaeology Survey of India (ASI) A.K. Khana and consultant Tourism and Culture, K A Qadri attended the meeting.
The meeting was informed that out of 106 monuments, declared as protected sites , 69 are being looked after by the Archaeology Survey of India (ASI), while 37 are being looked after by the State Archaeology Department.
Speaking at the meeting, Jora asked the officers to ensure proper maintenance of the protected monuments as these are among the main attractions for the tourists visiting the State. He asked for making available civic amenities like toilet, parking and allied facilities at each such site for the convenience of the visitors. He also asked for making available brochures and booklets containing historical background of the monuments for the knowledge of visitors.
Jora also asked for identification of encroachments on the monument sites and instructed for approaching the Deputy Commissioner’s concerned for taking action against the encroachers.
Minister said that the Government was keen to develop the heritage sites as main attraction for the tourists visiting the State.
