Shaheen seeks waiver of electricity charges in snow-bound areas
‘Ongoing delimitation process is farce’

Banihal, February 18, (Scoop News)- National Conference District President Mr Sajjad Shaheen on Saturday described the ongoing delimitation of Panchayats and their wards as a mockery and reiterated the demand for constitution of an empowered Delimitation Commission headed by a High Court Judge to undertake rationale, fair and transparent reorganization of these grass roots level democratic institutions.

“The ongoing process is a farce and needs to be stopped forthwith:, Mr Shaheen said while interacting with various delegations during his visit to various areas of the snow bound constituency.

He said the Panchayats were powerful engine of change of the rural landscape and therefore these needed to be empowered the put in place as per the urges and aspirations of the people.

Referring to the infrastructural breakdown of various utility services, especially the power and drinking water, Mr Sajjad Shaheen said that the people were facing brunt with the government showing callous attitude in not addressing their problems. He said most of the snow bound areas are without electricity and hence suffering on account of drinking water scarcity and therefore the government must waive off electricity charges for the period the supply remained snapped. He said several areas are without electricity for long spell of time now. He also expressed concern over the dilapidated condition of road and closure of various link roads across the constituency and sought their immediate restoration. “The people of various areas are cut off with other parts of the district and the state due to landlockedness”, he added.

In this context, the District President referred to bad condition of Neel-Batoo and Mahu-Mangit roads, saying this has caused enormous hardships for the locals. He said despite clearance of snow by the people on voluntary basis the road link has not been restored.

Mr Sajjad Shaheen also expressed anguish over inadequate ration stocking at various CAPD outlets and urged the administration to look into the matter so that people are not deprived of ration support.
