District administration Leh conducts an awareness programme for the school students on 7th National Voters Day

Jammu, January 20, (Scoop News)-In a run up to the 7th National Voters Day to be celebrated on 25th January, the district administration Leh conducted an awareness programme for the school students under Election Commission of India’s “Interactive School Engagement” (ISE) programme in DC Conference Hall today.
Chaired by Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Leh Kul Bushan Khajuria, the awareness programme was participated by Chief Education Officer, Leh Surinder Kumar, Tehsilder, Leh Gyurmet Dorjey, District Youth Services & Sports Officer Leh, Tsering Tashi, HQ Assistant DC Office Leh Mohd Sharif, BLOs and about 50 students in age group of 15 to17.
Addressing the progarmme, ACR, Leh Kul Bushan Khajuria said that the theme for the 7th NVD is “Empowering young and future voters” and Election Commission of India has dedicated year 2017 to the future voters. Educating students about the history of Indian constitution in detail, Khajuria highlighted the values of democracy deeply rooted in India’s political system and the voting rights given to its every citizen and appealed the students to spread awareness among their elder brothers and sisters and friends who have attained 18 year to register their name in voters list and franchise their voting rights in upcoming elections so that democracy of our nation could be strengthened more. He also updated students about all the aspects of Elections and Electoral Polity in context with national, state and Ladakh region.
Khajuria said that young boys and girls who have attained 18 years can register their name by filling the Form -6 available with respective BLOs and can also register their self online on the website of ECI.
Speaking in tandem HQ Assistant DC Office Leh Mohd Sharif and Chief Education Officer, Leh Surinder Kumar also highlighted the importance of NVD and said that registration of their name in the voters list at the age of 18 is the first step towards becoming a responsible citizen of the nation.
The officers also responded to the queries of students during the awareness programme.
Later, an animated documentary film of ECI was shown to the students.
