Chandigarh- Leh- Chandigarh flight resumes after a hiatus of nearly 12 years,
Losar festivities at its peak, LBA-Youth Wing shifts to a new office complex.



Leh (Ladakh), January 1, (Scoop News)-After a gap of nearly a dozen of years, Air India has resumed its commercial flights between Chandigarh and Leh sector thrice a week. Prior to 2005, Air India used to operate a lone flight on every Wednesday in this sector but had to suspend the same due to its financial non-viability.


Welcoming the step, the people of the region have appreciated the resumption of the flight and hoped the service will ease the situation for travelers particularly the students, tourists and defence personnel.


Speaking on the occasion, Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), Dr Sonam Dawa, said it is an auspicious beginning of Losar as it (flight service) would help ferrying the students, patients, pilgrims tourists and army personnel between Chandigarh- Leh- Chandigarh sectors. Meanwhile, weeklong Losar (Buddhist New Year) is being celebrated with all religious fervor and enthusiasm across the region. Entire mountainous region is in a mood of festivity and celebrating the festival forgetting all previous enomosity. Butter lamps (Chotmey) are lighted in all houses and the gonpas.


The celebrations began with Galdan Namchot- an auspicious event celebrated to observe the birthday and Buddha-hood of Je-Tsongkhapa, a 14th century Tibetan scholar and founder of Gelukspa School of Lamaism.


People visit each other’s houses these days and greet ‘Losar La Tashis Deleks, Losar La Jalskit’ (wishing each other for longevity and prosperity).


Meanwhile, in view of protests launched by medical students in Jammu, Head of Department Forensic Sciences, Government Medical College (GMC), Dr Bupesh Khajuria, was arrested following a case of alleged molestation was registered against him on December 26. He was evading his arrest since a case was filed against him in the police station near Bakshi Nagar. He was pretending to be seriously ill and got himself admitted in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of GMC. However, a report submitted by a committee constituted for the purpose revealed that the accused doctor was being a treated for seizure hypertension and Type 2 diabetes and further said that the patient is stable and can be discharged. The hospital authorities also relieved him as HoD of the faculty and sealed all records pertaining to the examination. In the meantime, Harassment Committee of the College is also likely to submit its report in next few days after they recorded the statement of the girl.


A similar protest was also held in Leh town on Saturday in which local people burnt the effigy of the accused doctor. They were demanding stern action against the erring doctor.


Meanwhile, on the eve of Losar, Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) Youth Wing shifted to a new office complex. Tsewang Thinles, president LBA, inaugurated the same in presence of scores of party activists. On the occasion, Ghu Thuk, a local preparation, was served to the members who were present at the function.


Traditional Khataks were also presented to the office bearers. Speaking during the function, Tsewang Thinles dedicated the complex to the people of Ladakh and urged them to take care of it as their own property. Earlier, president youth wing, Rinchen Namgyal, addressing party cadre, said the new complex was need of the hour to carry out political, social and other activities of LBA. He said the new office would inspire party workers to work with dedication for the welfare of the people....
