NC decries curbs, police action on 25th Muharrum processions
‘PDP-BJP Govt wants to disturb communal, sectarian harmony in Kashmir’

Srinagar, October 27, (Scoop News)- National Conference on Thursday condemned in the strongest of terms unwarranted curbs and police action on 25th Muhrarum processions and said the PDP-BJP Government wanted to disturb communal and sectarian harmony in Kashmir. NC Chief Spokesperson and Former Cabinet Minister Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi lashed out at the State Government for absolving themselves of the responsibility of protecting the religious rights of all communities.

“When 10th Muharrum processions were conducted peacefully and with utmost responsibility and amity demonstrated by the mourners, what was the need to put in place such restrictions and curbs for the 25th of Muharrum processions? The State Government has failed in upholding its objectivity and fairness and has mishandled the situation. It is evident the PDP-BJP Government wants to disturb harmony and amity in the State despite the fact that mourners had extended complete cooperation”, the NC Chief Spokesperson said in a statement issued from Party Headquarters in Srinagar.

The NC Chief Spokesperson said Mehbooba Mufti had surrendered her objectivity and the integrity of her office before the RSS and the BJP. “While RSS is not only allowed to hold armed marches in Jammu, Chenab and Pir Panchal but also provided with police escorts for these marches – the religious rights of the Shia community in Kashmir have been trampled with utter disregard and contempt”, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi said in the statement.

The NC Chief Spokesperson said the police action on Muharrum processions and mourners was an all-out assault against people belonging to a particular community and National Conference would defeat all efforts to intimidate and harass people on the basis of caste, sects, creed and religion.
