KP’s strongly condemn renaming of Hindu shrines in Kashmir
terms it ‘unfortunate’ when BJP shares power, registers a loud protest

Jammu, May 22, (Scoop News)-Reacting strongly to the advertisement issued by the state Tourism Department for naming famous Hari Parbat hill as Kohi Maran, several organizations of displaced Kashmiri Pandits (KP) have demanded a thorough probe into it.

“What message BJP-PDP coalition does want to convey to the displaced KP’s. On one hand, they propose to set up colonies for us and on other hand the vested elements dispose it off by renaming Hindu shrines and the places,” says Virender Ji Sethi, a private employee.

Tourism Department on Saturday had issued an advertisement in local newspapers to celebrate Kashmir Fort Festival s n between May 23 and 25 at Hari Parbat in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir and also wrote Koh I Maran, triggering a huge controversy.

“We have already stopped the circulation of invitation cards and also initiated an internal probe into the entire matter,” said an official, requesting anonymity.

Surprisingly, ancient history has a specific mention of it as ‘Hari Parbat’ in its pages. It was under Afghan rule that the place was called Koh i Maran and then during Dogra rule the place was again named as Hari Parbat.

“This appears to be a deep rooted conspiracy. A deliberate attempt is being made to erase the names of our sacred places and our history s n back in the valley, in our absence, now,” charges Patanjali Raina, a businessman.

Ajay Chrangoo, chairman of Panun Kashmir, a premier political organization of displaced Pandits, said in a statement, “government is encouraging radicalization of the state and promoting Islamisation.”

“Hari Parbat is an ancient name and rechristening it by a Muslim name speaks about the growing radicalization in Kashmir more so this time government itself is involved in it and unfortunately BJP is in power,” he lamented.
