Mufti assures speedy trial to bring perpetrators of crimes against women to justice
Srinagar, October 8,(Scoop News)-Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Thursday assured the House of a speedy trial so as to hand out exemplary punishment to those found guilty of burning Mehjabeen in Khanyar area of Srinagar district on September 25.
He also directed Police to fast-track investigation in cases related to violence against women so that the guilty are brought to justice.
The Chief Minister was speaking on a Calling Attention Notice, moved by MLA Khanyar, Ali Mohammad Sagar, in the Legislative Assembly today.
Mufti Sayeed said to prevent such incidents in future, the women will have to come forward and report the matter to the Police so that perpetrators of such crimes are booked and brought to justice. “The Police will have to take effective steps for instilling confidence among people in the law-enforcement agencies,” he added.
Describing violence against women as a matter of serious concern, the Chief Minister assured of speedy trial in all such cases so that people responsible for such heinous crimes get maximum punishment prescribed under law.
Speaking on another Calling Attention Notice moved by MLA Gool-Arnas, Ajaz Ahmad Khan, the Chief Minister said he will take up with the Central government the issue of maintenance of all strategic roads by Border Roads Organisation (BRO). “The BRO and GREF have the necessary wherewithal to maintain all critical roads in the state,” he added.
He specifically mentioned Ramban-Rajouri, Srinagar-Kangan, Srinagar-Leh, Kishtwar-Sinthan and Bani-Basohli-Bhaderwah roads, which BRO should maintain so that dependable inter and intra-regional connectivity is provided to the remote and inaccessible areas of the state.
“If need be, I will even take up the matter with the Prime Minister to resolve the issue on priority,” he assured.
The Chief Minister also asked Minister for Public Works to take up the issue forcefully with the Surface Transport Ministry so that all strategic roads in the state are properly maintained on a sustained basis.
