World Laboratory Day observed in Kashmir
Srinagar, April 25 (Scoop News)-In connection with the World Laboratory Day, a function was held at Lalla Ded Hospital, Srinagar under the Chairmanship of Medical Superintendent, Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad.
Among others, Head of Department Gynaecology & Obstetrics Dr. Shahnaz Teng, Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr. Farah Shafi and others were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Medical Superintendent while describing the achievements of Hospital said that the latest Analyzers have been installed in the tertiary care institution which facilitated patients to undergo various diagnostic investigations which hitherto were being performed outside at exorbitant rates besides being time consuming. He said that during last financial year 4,67,785 tests of various natures have been performed by the Hospital Lab. These include 93,600 CBC, 3,02,400 biochemistry parameters viz Glucose, KFT, LFT, Calcium, Uric Acid, Lipid Profile, Electrolytes, HbA1c etc. 10,800 ABG, 60,000 Urine Analysis and 1585 immunoassay, T3, T4, TSH, Beta HCG, Prolactin, LH, FSH, Insulin, Progesterone etc. estimations.
The Medical Superintendent lauded the role of Lab Staff for their dedication towards timely patient care.


World Veterinary Day-2015 was celebrated at FVSc&AH here today. The programme started with a rally from student activity centre to faculty lawns. The rally was flagged off by Vice Chancellor, Dr. Tej Pratap. Later a flag of World Veterinary Association was also hoisted and Scientific Exhibition was also inaugurated. The exhibition depicted activities of various division of faculty of veterinary sciences.
During technical programme, expert lectures on the theme “Vector-Borne Diseases with a Zoonotic Potential” were delivered by Prof. R.A. Shahardar, HOD Parasitology and Dr. Z.H. Munshi, Head Dir of Veterinary Public Health. The lectures dwelt on the importance of zoonotic disease and role of various vectors in transmission of disease between animals and man.
Dean faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Prof Sarfaraz elaborated importance of World Veterinary Day celebrations. He dwelt on the importance of zoonotic disease. He also discussed various achievements of scientists and student during the preceding year and highlighted the problems and concerns that need to be addressed.
The students who had won various awards in different activities during the year 2015 were also felicitated on the day.


World Veterinary Day was celebrated at Bandipora today. In this connection, a function was organised by Animal Husbandry department at Shokhaba Hatchery Sumlar Bandipora and was attended by Chief Executive Officer Livestock Development Kashmir, Dr. M.Y. Chaproo, State president Sheikh Mohammad Ahsan, other officers, employees and a good number of cattle rearers. The theme of the celebration was “Vector Borne Diseases with a zoonotic potential”.
The achievements made by the department under the sector were also highlighted in the celebration and it was disclosed that the milk production in the district during the last financial year was recorded as 81.38 thousand tons. While as the department conducted 53000 vaccinations to the animals. As many as 1.11 lakh dozings were performed besides 72046 contagious and non-contagious cases treated during the year in the district. It was given out that 1780 backyard units were established under poultry development programme. In all, 1317 major and minor surgeries have also been conducted during the said programme.
