BGSBU VC kicks off plantation drive
We want to make Pollution Free Green Campus: Prof Hamal
Rajouri,February 26, (Scoop News)- In order to make Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, a Green Campus, Vice Chancellor Prof. Irshad Ahmed Hamal has kicked off plantation drive in the Campus and have given a target of planting 5000 saplings to the concerned department of the University during the summer season.
Vice Chancellor was accompanied by Registrar Mohammad Rashid Choudhary, Chair Professor of Mahatma Gandhi Chair for Ecology & Environment BGSBU Prof GH Dar, Special Secretary to VC Suneet Gupta, Head Department of Management Studies Prof SK Gupta and Arboriculturist Shakeel Ahmed Choudhary who initiated this drive from the Campus area by planting a Pinus tree.
On the occasion Vice Chancellor Prof I A Hamal said that Green Campus programme is not only important for the beautification of the campus area but it is also important to keep the minds of the scholars fre He said that the University has become no pollution zone where a Department of Arboriculture and Centre for Biodiversity Studies are regularly focusing on to make the Campus fully green. He added that besides maintaining forests, thrust is also on to beautify and make all the campus lawns fully green. Meanwhile Vice Chancellor has set a target of plantation of 5000 saplings in this season to the Arboriculture Department of the University.
Giving details about the previous such activities, Registrar MR Choudhary said that Arboriculture Department of the University has become an example for state departments who had planted 1.50 lakh plants for the last 10 years in University campus. He said that University has established its own forest with 20,000 Deodar and 10,000 Pinus trees besides other trees.
Arboriculturist Shakeel Ahmed briefed Vice Chancellor that the Department has planted Pinus, Oak, Deodara Cedrus, Chinar and Ornamental plants in the Campus and the drive will be continued till the target of this year is achieved.
