| Rajendra reviews status of CCTN System | | Srinagar, October 20, (Scoop News)- Director General of Police (DGP), 20 K. Rajendra Kumar reviewed the status of Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS) in the State, post floods. He said that in view of the forthcoming elections, the system has gained much importance and the project needs to be restored on priority.
20 Rajendra was taking stock of the functioning of CCTNS in a high level meeting held at Crime Headquarters here today. He sought reports on the damages caused to the project due to recent floods and the present status of system. He said that in the forthcoming elections, the network would help to keep vigil on the activities in busiest places and track the offenders.
The meeting was informed that the system has been damaged at various locations in the flood hit districts of Srinagar, Jammu, Anantnag and Rajouri, effecting their functioning. Efforts have been put in place to bring the sites back on track and maintain the network in good condition.
20 Rajendra stressed upon the officers present in the meeting to work together and restore the system on war footing. He asked the authorities of the agency maintaining the project, who were also present in the meeting, to gear up the technical staff and make all the damaged sites functional on priority.
The DGP disclosed that 282 locations are connected with the network, out of which 22 sites were damaged in the recent floods, causing great loss to the system. He said that the network is being utilized to digitize the criminal cases district wise and 2624 cases have been digitized in 23 districts of the State. He asked the Crime Branch officers to speed up the progress and digitize the remaining cases.
Stressing to sharpen the training skills in crime investigation and detection, the DGP said that acquaintance with latest methods is imperative and more personnel should be imparted training in different fields like data base administration, system administration, CAS customization and networking.
IGP Crime, SJM Geelani, gave a power point presentation about the present status of CCTNS and functioning of Crime Branch in the State. He apprised the meeting about the site survey, site preparation, data digitization, connectivity and training aspect. He projected requirements to make the damaged sites functional. He requested for advanced training of manpower for effective handling of CCTNS project.
20 Rajendra appreciated the efforts of Crime Branch personnel and said that the wing would be strengthened at all levels. “Crime data and records should be updated and CCTVs installed at various locations should be utilized to identify the culprits and book them under law,”the DGP said.
Earlier, the DGP inspected the Crime Headquarter and discussed administrative matters with regard to housing the Crime Headquarter in a new building. He also enquired about the working facilities available.
