Army rescues 140 stranded passengers in border area in Tangdhar sector



Srinagar, April 19, (Scoop News)-Army rescued 140 people, including women and children, who got stranded in avalanche prone area in border area in Tangdhar sector in north Kashmir.

A defence ministry spokesman said here this afternoon that due to fresh snowfall the road between Nasta Chun pass and Tangdhar got closed.
He said 140 passengers, traveling in different vehicles got stuck in snow in avalanche prone area.
These passengers were facing grave threat to their lives due to heavy snowfall and inclement weather, he said, adding that an Army post located at the pass, received the information at around 1845 hrs about the incident.
Despite inhospitable and inclement weather conditions,avalanche rescue team sprung into action and rushed for the rescue of helplessly stranded passengers. Braving all the odds and threat of avalanches to their own lives, the soldiers evacuated all the stranded people to complete safety and provided them a safe passage till Nasta Chun Pass, where they were provided with tea, food and medical aid.

A snow clearing dozer was also pressed into service by the BRO persons to clear the road off the snow to allow the traffic to move out of the danger area.
