Asia’s first ever snow sculpture camp thrown open for public in Gulmarag
Sculptures attracts bollywood actress to join ceremony

Gulmarag,February 16, (Scoop News)- Snow fiesta 2014, first ever snow scripture camp and exhibition in south asia organized by eplanner event management in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Tourism and in association with Callisto Art and Culture at world famous ski resort Gulmarg was thrown open for public on Saturday evening.
The festival titling ‘snow fiesta-2014’ was inaugurated by Minister for Tourism, Ghulam Ahmad Mir in presence of Director Tourism Talat Pervez and Director e-planner, Irfan Quraishi along with other dignitaries. Bollywood actress Kalki Koechlin who was on her personnel visit also joined the inaugural ceremony after orgainisers spotted her in Gulmarag and invited for the same. Kalki Koechlin expressed joy while seeing the camp. Latter while showing more interest in the unique snow art camp she also joined the award ceremony. She said the camp was superb which excited her to click some photos as best memory.
Director e-planner Irfan Quraishi said that the main attraction of the festival was snow painting, snow photography and open air snow scripture. The artists worked for almost 28 days in freezing temperature to prepare huge scriptures including 30 feet kashmiri Samawar, Child -cradle, horse, igloo, snow guitar Kangri, fish and 30 feet vintage car. Adding that the purpose of the festival was to attract more tourists during winter season in Kashmir and to encourage young Kashmiri artists. He said this type of event is being orgainsed in countries like china and Japan but first of its kind in south Asia.
“The artists were arranged locally not only to depict local cultural articles, but to generate interests among them for participating in such events, which can help them to generate economy,” he said. He said Kashmiri artist from different colleges and universities like Jamia Millia University Delhi, Institute of Music and fine art were participants in the camp.
Zahoor Kashmiri, President Callisto art and culture said, “The purpose of the event was to add one more event in the tourism calendar here, which will attract more tourists and art lovers across the world here, which can prove boon for our economy.” He also said being a professional degree holder in the art and fine music; it was great opportunity for him to show case his talent in the festival.
In the evening a grand musical event was held in presence of students from Indian Institute of Ski and mountaineering, Gulmarg. The minister for tourism joined by Bollywood actress Kalki Koechlin distributes appreciation certificates and awards to the artist, orgainsers and contributors. During the ceremony while addressing the gathering Ghulam Ahmad Mir said that the event is historic and unique. He added that the J&K tourism will be always at the disposal of such events which attract tourists and cater tourism trade.
The officers of tourism department present on the occasion, media persons and other visitors to the festival were all praise of these young artists who really impressed visitors by their fantastic performance in the event.
