4-day National level AROGYA Mela at Jammu
Jammu, December 20, (Scoop News)- A 4-day Ayurvedic Carnival is set to begin at Parade Ground, Jammu from Saturday with an objective to create more awareness and greater reach to the patients about the strength of AYUSH and effective alternative medicine systems.
Addressing a jam packed press conference here today, the Union Joint Secretary, AYUSH Department, Mr Anil Ganeriwala has said the alternative medicine system refers to a parallel medicine system of Allopathic, which is the most popular and common medicine system across the world. He said it includes Ayurvedic, Homeopathic, Unani, Siddha, Tibetan, Acupressure, Acupuncture, Reiki, and Naturopathy medicine systems that are claimed to be more effective medicine system with fewer hazards.
Giving the details about the carnival, the Joint Secretary said that the prime object of organizing this fair is to acknowledge the public about the benefits of this medicine system and to create awareness among them that most of the complex diseases can be cured with these alternative medicine system.
He said this this 4 day National level comprehensive health fair on AROGYA health fair is being organized by Directorate of Indian System of Medicines, J&K Government in collaboration with Department of AYUSH, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and FICCI.
Giving the detailed information about the schedule of the four-day health fair, he said that the kickoff of fair will be held with a free-health campaign scheduled from 10 am to 1 pm where renowned traditional medical practitioners will give free consultation to the patients. He said the formal inauguration program will be held at 11 A.M tomorrow by the Chief Minister, Omar Abudallah and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.
He said during Mela, a number of manufacturers of ayurvedic and unani medicines will be displaying their products. In addition to that, a number of highly experienced Naadi-Vaidyas, Homeopaths and Naturopaths will be available all day where the patients can get free consultation. He said AYUSH system have a long history of use by the communities as it requires simple technological inputs for diagnosis of ailments and preparation of medicinal products. Organization of such fairs in other parts of the country will continue to promote our holistic and traditional systems for overall public good adding that such a fair would be also organized at Kathua on 28th &29th of this month. He said last event in the State was organized with great success at Srinagar in 2009.
He said the fair has grown into a country-wide phenomenon organized throughout the year now. The Department of AYUSH organizes and supports these fairs to encourage the dissemination of information on the benefits and achievements of the AYUSH systems of medicine and for sharing of experiences and best practices between the industry, academia and research institutions.
He said the active participation of AYUSH drug industries, medicinal plant traders, research institutions, hospitals, publishers and other stakeholders in the AROGYA fairs ensure a wide spectrum of activities thus making it more informative and interesting for the general public. He said that over the past three decades there has been a tremendous resurgence of peoples’ interest in the AYUSH Systems of Medicine, not only in India but also in many parts of the world, including Europe and the USA. This is mainly because of holistic approach towards preventive, promotive and positive health and multi-dimensional aspects of disease management in these traditional systems of medicine. He said it is a matter of pride that there are 501 AYUSH educational institutions including 111 postgraduate colleges where about 27,000 students are admitted annually.
Briefing on the occasion, the Director ISM, Dr. Kabir said that AYUSH has been adopted as one of the core strategies under NRHM to augment effective provisioning of healthcare services. He said AYUSH services are being introduced at various levels, i.e. in the Primary Health Centres, Community Health Centres, Sub-District and District Hospitals across the State. He said the aim is to utilize the AYUSH doctors in implementation of the national health programmes.He said a national survey report from National Health Systems Resource Centre says that the use of AYUSH and local health traditions is the mainstay of healthcare in many rural areas, he added. He said with mainstreaming of AYUSH strategy under NRHM, the patients’ attendance in the PHCs, CHCs and District Hospitals has increased in the last three to four years. He said over 41 lakh patients have been treated in ISM health institutions during last fiscal across the State.
He said this ‘Arogya 2013 health fair will give a platform for participants to showcase the strength and potential of traditional systems of medicine, exhibit Research and Development efforts in the AYUSH sector, interact with practitioners, consumers and other stakeholders, project future trends and requirements in the AYUSH healthcare sector, create awareness among individuals and professionals about Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha & Homoeopathy.
He said the fair will attract stakeholders in AYUSH sector like manufacturers, retailers, consumer healthcare product manufacturers, health food producers and processors, medical practitioners and publishers.
