Rahul Gandhi fulfilled his promise : Panchayat Conference

Srinagar, June 17 (Scoop News)-Accusing the government of Jammu and Kashmir of deceiving them in the name of empowerment, All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference an amalgam of Panchayat members of the state has however,warmly welcomed the announcement of central government to provide Rs 10 Lakh to each Panchayat of the state on yearly basis as untied fund for development . This announcement was made by union rural development minister Jai Ram Ramesh on the instructions of AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi at Badgam on Saturday .
While welcoming this announcement , Shafiq Mir, chairman All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference gave its all credit to AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi while talking to media persons out side Kong Posh hotel at Srinagar on Monday saying that Mr Gandhi had made this promise with the Sarpanches delegation last year which had met him under the banner of AJKPC. “ We are very happy with this announcement and we give its all credit to Rahul Gandhi who has always been supportive to the empowerment of Panchayats in the state of Jammu and Kashmir but the matter got delayed due only due to the anti Panchayat attitude of JK government”, said Shafiq Mir .
Flanked by senior AJKPC leaders, Mir said that JKPCC chief Prof. Saif-U-Din Soz also deserves for all thanks as he has also been very much vocal for empowerment of Panchayats in the state of Jammu and Kashmir . However, Mir said that lot is yet to be done which is not possible in the present dispensation . He said that till present government is in place there is no possibility of empowerment of Panchayats adding that their organization will continue to fight for the empowerment of democratic institutions at grass root level.
Expressing anguish and resentment over the misbehavior of DC Udhumpur with Panchayat leaders on other day, Mir said the officer must be suspended and legal action should be taken against her .
Earlier, AJKPC had convened a meeting of Sarpanches mainly from Kashmir valley at hotel Kong Posh and discussed the problems of Panchayats and chalked out the further strategy to fight for empowerment of Panchayats . The Sarpanches on the occasion accused the government of Jammu and Kashmir for the failure of PRIs in the state and decided to go Delhi and take up the matter with central leadership. The prominent Panchayat leaders who spoke on the occasion included , Imtiaz Afzal Beig provincial president Kashmir, Ghulam Hassan Panzoo spokesman of the organization, Anil Sharama General Secretary, Bashir Ahmed Malik provincial secretary Kashmir, Goutem Singh Jamwal, Ghulam Mohidin, Sarpanch Raina, Bashmir Ahmed Mir, Fayaz Ahmed Khanday, Mohammad Farooq Chowdhary, Mohammad Shafi Mir, Fayaz Ahmed , Memoona Begum and others .
